post-1224-1144957008_thumb.jpgBy the summer of 1978 I'd been attending all-nighters for a year however I wasn't a full soul boy with patches I was still just dipping my toe in. We'd venture over the pennines in transit vans and I recall once breaking down by that farmhouse which is marooned between the motorway right on top of the moors. Northerners will know where I'm talking about. It was about midnight but I was young and reckless so I started thumbing it towards Manchester. Amazingly some bloke in a sports car skidded to a halt and we jumped in. He dropped us off at the back of the town hall straight into a waiting taxi and onto the Carousel. I was never aware of any violence around this club because I wasn't from the area and always arrived direct. post-1224-1144957055_thumb.jpgIn a strange twist of fate I know live only a few miles away from where the club used to stand. Sunday 27th May 1979. post-1224-1144957055_thumb.jpg Its time to start building up a photo gallery me thinks.

 Nice one Derek, never seem to hear anyone metioning this 'nighter these day's. If I remember correctly (which isn't alway's!) it was on around bank holiday weekend's and was run by Martin Christie (MJC). A good "newie's" 'nighter with the like's of Richard Searling, Pat Brady and Soul Sam on.

It was also the first venue I saw (heard?) Dave Withers DJ.

Happy day's!!!

Cheers Paul Woosnam

Yes it was run by martin christie, possibly the dodgiest promoter of all time[didnt like paying djs ] but was a good laugh if you werent working for him.Got my first ever dj spot at the carousel in between richard searling and tim brown,a real baptism of fire.I always enjoyed this venue even though there was lots of trouble with the punks, but when your 19 that added to the fun.Martin also ran the bellvue alldayers and merry go round in salford.

Carousel - seem to remember a few good niters there - some good times had with the Romiley lads, Cheesey, Russ, Lloyd etc.

Didnt they in the mid-80's split the dancefloor up with soem daft screens??

I last saw Dave Holland (I was best mates with him in the late 70's) at Prestwich last year, for 2 months running. He looked quite thin!.

His dancing hadnt changed much though!

Always remember the Carousel for one particular weekend it was the first May Bank holiday Sunday in 79. I'd just broke up with my girlfriend and went on a bit of wild one. Wigan oldies nighter on the Friday Night, into town to see City on the Sat Wigan on the Sat night, the Ritz on the Sunday for an all dayer over to Plymouth Grove for the Sunday nighter and finish of a cracking weekend at the Mecca all dayer in Blackpool on the Bank Holiday Monday. What a weekend  and they say there are too many venues now.
