Georgie Fame 'Daylight' Island

Picked this up recently and it really is a rather excellent Modern soul dancer.

A cover of a Bobby Womank tune (which I wasn't aware of before). Still a

cheap and easy record to find, released on a UK Island 45 & a limited edition

12" as well which is the same length as the 45 I think. I'll add a soundclip if

anyone is interested.

The Instrumental El bandido gets plays at mod clubs along with Somebody stole my thunder from his CBS days.

As does his version of Seventh Son - also on CBS.

(Well it does by me anyway.......)

really like his version of "sweet thing"......is it LP only?

Maybe a foreign release or a French E.P. but it appears to be an album cut. I'm surprised as it's a familar track.

ahh found it

1966 - Get Away (Columbia SLEM 2250) Portugal

Get Away (Powell) / El Bandido (Powell) / My Girl / Sweet Thing

1966 - Sitting In The Park (Columbia ERSF 1751) France

Sitting In The Park / Sweet Thing / Ride Your Pony / The World Is Round

1966 - Sweet thing / Last Night (Columbia DB 2315) Sweden

Thanks for the info Frank.......i wouldnt mind that Swedish Columbia 45....is it easy to track down?

I have a copy and I think it's a great version of "Sweet Thing". It very seldom turns up for sale here in Sweden, think I've only ever seen 2-3 other copies for sale during the past 10 years.

Jimmy Edd was playing a version of 'Stormy' by him around Lincs back in the early 90s - off an LP if I remember.

Love this - Never heard it before and what I love about this site!

Georgies credentials have never wavered in my eyes - An original stalwart of the british jazz scene - regular Flamingo performer in the 6t's - Mod hero and lover and supporter of jazz/soul/R&B for many years! Always liked his version of 'Sitting In The Park ' mainstream yes but one of the best guys we've got!

Sorry off thread but did anyone tape the programme couple of weeks ago on Georgie Fame?

While the Bobby Womack original of "DAYLIGHT" is by far the best ,the biggest dance version was the Warren Schatz produced Vickyi Sue Robinson version which tore up the floors in 1976.............."here we go again............."

He's still the biz - he's sold the Drill Hall out in Lincoln, twice in the last 12 months. Still a great entertainer with some quality anecdotes.
