Mike Shawe Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Georgie Fame 'Daylight' Island Picked this up recently and it really is a rather excellent Modern soul dancer. A cover of a Bobby Womank tune (which I wasn't aware of before). Still a cheap and easy record to find, released on a UK Island 45 & a limited edition 12" as well which is the same length as the 45 I think. I'll add a soundclip if anyone is interested.

FrankM Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 really like his version of "sweet thing"......is it LP only? Maybe a foreign release or a French E.P. but it appears to be an album cut. I'm surprised as it's a familar track. ahh found it 1966 - Get Away (Columbia SLEM 2250) Portugal Get Away (Powell) / El Bandido (Powell) / My Girl / Sweet Thing 1966 - Sitting In The Park (Columbia ERSF 1751) France Sitting In The Park / Sweet Thing / Ride Your Pony / The World Is Round 1966 - Sweet thing / Last Night (Columbia DB 2315) Sweden Check this discography https://www.geocities.com/mikegriffiths6/th...iscography.html

Sebastian Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Thanks for the info Frank.......i wouldnt mind that Swedish Columbia 45....is it easy to track down? I have a copy and I think it's a great version of "Sweet Thing". It very seldom turns up for sale here in Sweden, think I've only ever seen 2-3 other copies for sale during the past 10 years.

Guest Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 While the Bobby Womack original of "DAYLIGHT" is by far the best ,the biggest dance version was the Warren Schatz produced Vickyi Sue Robinson version which tore up the floors in 1976.............."here we go again............."
