Guest Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Hi there, does anyone know how many versions of Did my baby Call by Steve Mancha there are? 've heard a soundclip of one , but there is a far superior version on The Essential Detroit cd compilation. Were both release on vinyl? If anyone can shed more light on this for me, i'd be grateful......... thanks, Carl.

I seem to remember something about Tim listing it as the Professionals version on a CD ... but it actually being the Steve Mancha version .... could be very wrong though .. it has been known Great record by both .... here's the Steve Mancha version which i was given as a 21st birthday present would you believe .... 19 years ago .... from my pal Carl Fortnum

That version is good, but i think the "essential detroit cd" version packs a better punch(imo anyway).
Derek Pearson Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 What a great song well sung by mister mancha - have always loved the Mad Lads version released in 1972 on Volt 4080 as well. derek
Garethx Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 (edited) There is a huge doubt in my mind as to whether The Professionals version of DMBC features Steve Mancha on lead vocals: he had a tremendously distinctive voice and the guy who sings the group version has never sounded anything like him to my ears. Anyone out there agree with me? Soundclips would be a good place to start: anyone got any for a side by side comparison? Edited April 13, 2006 by garethx

Will up load the Professionals later as the site cant accept them at the moment due to the move

Dave Pinch Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 hi guys steve mancha and the professionals share the same backing but the groove city release has a longer intro and is a different and IMHO superior vocalist. but as joan said. When it was put on the detroit cd i think they got the versions mixed up dave

The professionals is the superior version I.M.H.O. just for the long intro alone, very atmospheric played loud.
Ted Massey Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 He you go Professionals the best versio i had both but Steve Mancha is nowhere near as good and i think the backings are different01_Did_my_baby_call.mp3
Simon T Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Is there a version by Joey Kingfish, or did I just imagine that?
Nick Hackett Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Is there a version by Joey Kingfish, or did I just imagine that? I think so,maybe on 1 of the goldmine groovesville cds. Did my baby call is fantastic, for me the professionals wins,my alltime favourite double sider, detroit perfection.
