Unbeleivable!

I sold one of these on Ebay a couple of years ago. I think I got a tenner for it.

==============================================================

Guaranteed to be original and authentic. - Says the seller

Yeah right mate - these were the ones pressed up in the late 80s ?? Seem to remember buying one at Bradford Queens Hall .

Whether the seller thinks it is original - I very much doubt it - then he is ripping off the buyer. Simple as really. Makes me sick! Tenner is about right.

A bit hasty there Rich. I kinda remember this seller and his stuff is usually fine. I think what's happening here is that we are assuming a knowledge on the part of these American soul dealers on Ebay that in a lot of cases they just don't have. They have the price guides and off they go. Any deviation from that and you end up in uncharted territory. Im sure we've all seen ads for Shalamar WOW Rare Northern Soul!!

PS By the way my copy does not have ink writing on so you can DIY

True Rod - I guess ' tarred with the same brush ' springs to mind - With so many sellers trying it on I suppose the odd one is not going to know / or be unsure - You stick it on ebay and hey presto - you get your big bids. Ah yes the Shalamar rare northern soul - I look at those BIG LOTS OF RARE SOUL all the time :thumbsup: - Dogs dinner a lot of em.

Just read the questions and answers section at the bottom of this listing and seller says he does not want to represent this as something its not---so why has he a reserve on it that has not been met at 177dolls--i think he is trying it on------------jo

Now at $9.95!!

Who are these numpties who bid on it in the first place. Next time you could be bidding for something you want and in come Messrs "I have no idea but it must be worth a lot" to screw you up.

ROD

fair play to the guy, that's more like it.

i've bought off him before and he's always quick, accurate and as described so this seems a genuine error.

I entirely agree Rod - I think what you decribe is happening a lot. US dealers post up records, and not always with the intent to defraud. We easily forget the depth of local knowledge Soul Sourcers have about the scene - early '70s pressings, EMI Discs, very clever boots have all been used on the scene. Forty years on, an American guy whose really into rock rarities finds a northern soul record, and all he has to go on is a price guide. The instant thought is that the record is worth a bit.

I wonder how many Amercian have say John Manship's Bootleg Guide let alone an obsessive knowledge of the Wheel, Torch, Wigan, Cleethorpes, Stafford, 100 Club etc.

Not saying there aren't con-men but I suspect there's also a lot of innocent hype.
