Simon T
Listening some Motown and was thinking which muscian I would like to have been. Tonight Mathew I'm:- probably James Jameson as he held the tracks together, but then again maybe Andrew 'Mike' Terry so I could nip off in my spare time and make some proper Detroit records. Then again I might be Benny B and based my drum beats on a fat lady's wobbling backside. Perhaps Marv Taplin or Earl Van Dyke so I could make great music and read the paper at the same time. Maybe unearth that box of 'I'm Gone' from under my extensive tambarine collection, sell them to some daft middle aged limies and retire in the sun? Might marry the bosses sister, flog the drum kit and move to Belgium.....maybe not Belgium :-) Who would you be? Link to comment Social source share

Guest Netspeaky
Well if you want to win it, it would have to be Jr Walker as he's most probably the only musician that the masses would have heard of and would have voted for. Link to comment Social source share

Mark I took your advice, but unfortunatley came in second to Uriel Jones & Pistol Allen playing the bongos they brought back from a ' Club 65 - 95' holiday in the Algarve! "Motown might have gold-plated my horn, but it sure didn't teach me how to blow it"! all the best Autry DeWalt, Jr. Link to comment Social source share

Rob Moss
It wasn't 'Ivory Joe Hunter' who played on the Funk Brothers tour but Joseph E. (Joe) Hunter. You'll find the latter's name on many great Detroit recordings too - particularly 'Pied Piper' material. He was one of the first keyboard players at Motown. Rob Moss
Joe was there before 'Popcorn' who came with his Mohawks! His band included Mike Terry who told me that he was the only player kept when Popcorn and the Mohawks were let go.Someone else (can't remember) also told me that 'Popcorn' had a violent discussion with Berry Gordy, or at least that's what it sounded like from outside the room! It certainly explains why such a talent as 'Popcorn' had no involvement with Motown until the seventies. Link to comment Social source share
