Simon T Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) Hi everyone, I ´ll be in Cambridge next April 9th to 10 th. I´m interesting to find good 45´s of soul and funk stuff. Could you help me? Thanks in advance Jadd There's fook all in Cambridge apart from a big river & me! Don't know of any shops selling vinyl except a few 12"'s in HMV Andy's and the one just up from it, Max's, Parrott and that one opposite, all closed about 3 years ago or more. There's never owt on the market and I'm sure Andy's stall on Ely's Saturday market has long gone (could be wrong, got a phobia of Cathederals / cities) However, there's a few decent pubs and lots of top totty about when the sun's out so check the long term weather forcast for those dates. Catriona Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 it had moved to a new shopping complex can't remember the name about 3-4 years ago and steve was there then- got some nice 70's bits there cheap Sorry but Andy s records closed a while ago, so did most of the others including Max s shop so not much going on nowadays in Cambridge record wise.
Guest Russ Smith Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Theres always Cambridge Resale on Mill road .... You Never know what you will find in there ! I think my mate Pete Syrotinski sells at the boot fair in town, hes always good for decently priced 45s. But without Max its Record shop RIP... Shame, i turned up some cracking UK bits there in the past. ( 20 years ish )

Guest Russ Smith Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Still the same thankfully, trading 45s as always but not going to events. Have to get him on here...Great knowledge/sense of humour . Sells on ebay as young_mr_grace !!!
Guest WPaulVanDyk Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Well it must be as bad as where i am in Peterborough, we don't have records apart from a dusty old place down some alley. the seller has no ides if you ask for any Northern soul singles saying he don't have any yet when you look in his box of soul singles he has Tommy Hunt, Frankie Valli, Jimmy James Northern soul hits i know they normal but they still Northern soul not seperated. We have another place who sell some records but he don't get so much stock in so hardly anything of sorts, best option is if any new stuff come from sellers who do Record fair here
Ged Parker Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 There is a record shop in the centre of St Ives not that far away. My copy of 'The Panic is On' came from there in the mid 70's it's still there but its a real messy shop to look through.
Catriona Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Sorry but Andy s records closed a while ago, so did most of the others including Max s shop so not much going on nowadays in Cambridge record wise. If you are in a car...you could always nip along the A14 and see Glen Bellamy in Kettering ( as long as he knows your coming.) It s not a soul wilderness...just that these guys dont sell from shops anymore as there is no real sense in having a commercial property to maintain. Jacko sells odd bits on ebay as does Max! Mick Godfrey has a warehouse but is only really selling strange bouncy music nowadays. Glen does record fairs and stalls at soul do s but mostly sells from lists and the net. Up until about three years ago, I could spend all day in Cambridge buying records from Steve J in Andy s ( and drinking expensive coffee) now I just bother him in the flat and drink tea. If you plan it well you could still get a vinyl fix. x
Guest Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Hi all, Nice to see I'm still remembered with some sort of affection (even if it was for providing coffee from Starbucks lol). Cambridge is now a disaster for records, Andy's went under 3 years ago and necessitated a career change for yours truly, Max's shop went soon afterwards, due to the extortionate rents/rates. Think someone mentioned Cambridge resale on Mill Road, thats about the only place you'll find anything now. Although Andy Davies had a shop for a little while in Ely, thats gone too, although my old m8 Mick from Andy's has opened a collectors shop in Ely, I'm told. Its only open about 4 days a week though. He's a rock specialist, though he has turned up some good soul stuff in the past. Best news is he uses Record Collector as a pricing guide, so if he's got anything it might be worth a visit??? s Cat says, Glenn Bellamy is about the only place round this area for some serious hunting. Thank God for eBay and the like ..... All the best, Steve
