Simsy Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Got an email from a mate who was with us at the 100 on Sat. Reads as follows; There's a track Soul Sam played that I've heard before and is f***ing top... I don't know the artist or what it's called, but I think it's a big record as the dancefloor response was huge. Sounds mid to late Seventies to me, bit of a floater, and has the repeated refrain of "Girl don't leave me" in the chorus. Been doing a little digging myself today, but no luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated and should you by any chance manage to secure a download that would be great.
Guest cC B Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Flip to Eric Lomax C/U (aka L.M.williams) called "Girl don't leave me" perhaps?

Not got a sound file have you CB? If it is the Eric Lomax c/u, I started my new show on Starpoint Radio (Sky channel 0163, Wed 10.30pm) with it! Just had a look on the Starpoint web site to see if you can still hear it on the internet, but sadly it is not on there! Great record though! Cheers Paddy

Would have thought £1500 plus, would have though a big demand if one was up for auction, seems most of the main players have one.
Gasher Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) lets say £3k ..i know cause thats what it cost me ok impulse buy but if thats what I had to pay to get it then it was fine with me..at least I have it now..panic is off took me years to get one too. I obviously dont sleep with the right DJ,s Shifty auctioned a copy too went for over £2750 a year or so ago. never seen one since come up for commoners like me to pay through the nose for. Guest Baz Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 lets say £3k..i know cause thats what it cost me Blimey Very medioker record IMO of course.
Gasher Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 got to be the biggest & best double sided modern/70,s soul of all time IMO only of course and ........Butch,s so that good enough for me. Massive record in Aberdeen..always a floor filller both sides..
Guest Dodger Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Not bad really, not what I was expecting at all, having seen it mentioned all this time.
Steve G Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 As others have said both sides have been played for years now, the A side being the most popular - always a packer. This record has a varied cover up history: Dave Welding covered the A side as "Means of Escape" Butch and Mick Smith covered the A side as "Eric Lomax" as did everyone else who had it Dave Welding and I both referred to the B side "Girl don't leave me" as "Troy Johnson" Sam meanwhile covered the B side up as "Major Harris"
Gasher Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 it was quite funny Dave Welding covered the A side as "Means of Escape" featuring Eric Lomax on Pickachu. as there was a wee sticker of our pokemon friend stuck on his label by a certain member who will remain anonymoooose I always thouht the flip was c/up as "Joe Johnson" so thats what I put on mine..haha. I was told Sam actually played the "Girl dont leave me" Uncovered as LMW ....we all know who it is now but if you ask anyone about LMW they dont know what the feck youre on aboot but if you say ERIC LOMAX..then they all know.
Ted Massey Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Mick and dave had it well before Butch Mick played both sides at the 100 club and Butch didnt realise it was the same record or at least that's what Mick told me
Chalky Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 That'll be one of the disco records played Saturday night then Was told Butch had the first copy and sold it abroad? It's on another label too
Guest Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 That'll be one of the disco records played Saturday night then Was told Butch had the first copy and sold it abroad? It's on another label too Well it is more suited to NIGHTCLUB imo
Chalky Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I think both sides are fab but now tired of hearing it. As good as it is and as rare as it is it's been hammered.
Supercorsa Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 Only heard it on my computer, not out at any do, but don't think it's all that. I can honestly say I wouldn't buy it if it was £30 let alone £3000!
Dave Abbott Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 i thought the the 'other label' than LMW was a wind-up (in fact i am sure it was Butch that told me this)
Steve G Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 It's on another label too I have yet to see or hear any real evidence of this, though have heard the same rumour.
Chalky Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 (edited) I have yet to see or hear any real evidence of this, though have heard the same rumour. Sure Dave Welding either said he'd had a copy or seen it. Anyway he sort of confirmed it existed (verbally mind) when I asked him at the Orwell, maybe Louise can help out here, know Dave's shy when it comes to PC's. Edited April 4, 2006 by chalky
Guest Baz Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 That'll be one of the disco records played Saturday night then Not biting
Maria O Posted April 4, 2006 Posted April 4, 2006 I have yet to see or hear any real evidence of this, though have heard the same rumour. I happen to hear him offerring his copy for sale when he picked up the spare on the 'other' label. I can remember the venue (hence the rough date) and price, but it's not my place to say ...else I'd be always posting stuff up here m
Corbett80 Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Fantastic record, particularly 'Girl Your So Sweet'........ Anyone know what the other label its on is called?
Guest ruppy Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 first heard this side spun by mick h at the 100 club two years ago.while the other side was getting spins. better side of the two girl don,t leave me. also i know he had a spare on another label think he sold it to one of the swedish guys mano
Louise Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Sure Dave Welding either said he'd had a copy or seen it. Anyway he sort of confirmed it existed (verbally mind) when I asked him at the Orwell, maybe Louise can help out here, know Dave's shy when it comes to PC's. Yep its deffo on a another label it's not Dave's but i have seen it it's an obscure label and i've probably said too much already........
Gasher Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 (edited) I bought Butch,s old / spare copy.THE OTHER LABEL STORY IS BOLLOX He told me he had picked up another copy ON THE SAME LABEL and the inital other label story was about a totally different record alltogether not LMW...That was from the horses mouth.. Not saying Butch is hung like a horse..more a shetland pony..haha Edited April 5, 2006 by the gasher
Guest Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 I have yet to see or hear any real evidence of this, though have heard the same rumour. Steve G Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Yes Steve i've seen it although Gasher obviously doesn't believe me No Dave hasn't got it his is the same as yours Cheers. Think I had the 4th one after Dave Welding, Butch, and Mick Smith.
Gasher Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 Not that I said" I didnt believe you"..I just dont see why Butch would lie to me so blatantly Id have thought his credability should count for something? Obviously not..I must stop listening to the people I trust and feel know the most. Who can you trust in this game eh??? NOBODY....................THATS WHO That will learn me to listen to the horses mouth..should maybe turn round and let them blow smoke up my arse.... pissed off and very disillusioned.... the gasher Yes Steve i've seen it although Gasher obviously doesn't believe me
