soulfulsaint Posted March 30, 2006 Author Posted March 30, 2006 I thought you had this when you were buying all those indies off of soul bowl in the mid 80's stuart? Just about everything but this one Steve it just slipped through my fingers.

Karlm Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 ============================================================ Not a good time to be chasing this one ,,Its massive in Scandanavia and Japan Cheers Simon M You might not know this Simon but it is less than 10 people in Sweden who buys £300 or more modern soul 45's.

Hi Karl Ive noticed quite a few bids from Norway Finland , and a few from Sweden over the years , but I guess it only takes about 50 people or less who want the record , to really push it up . the Japan bids are usually sniped so they are winning and bidding high . Cheers Simon . ps . Would you say Pro' Fas ' is popular over in Sweden , with the Modern soul fans
Guest OskarB Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 (edited) You might not know this Simon but it is less than 10 people in Sweden who buys £300 or more modern soul 45's. Judging by a recent thread in a swedish soul forum, the chances of getting a copy of pro-fas other than as a shameless bargain to sweden recently dropped with around 50% when a certain someone moved to London But then of course there are some top-dogs on the Swedish collectors scene not active on that forum. Wheres the Modern soul played on Sweden , I think Karl said , Gothenberg ??

Cheers Simon . ps . Would you say Pro' Fas ' is popular over in Sweden , with the Modern soul fans Despite that I only have a little insight on Norway and Finland soul and collector scenes I think it is safe to say Sweden have the biggest ones. About popularity of this certain track I'm sure a few of us listen to mp3's of this at home and all agree that it is a quality track. When it comes to actual copies I think only Magnus Blomquist have it, he in his turn got it from Jens Chreisti which is another one of the less than ten people that are buying big money modern soul 45's. Gothenburg is strong hold for northern soul, Stockholm where I'm from is more mixed northern and modern but again you can barely talk about scenes and where stuff get's played here as it is only a small group of people. There is no dancefloor rare soul club in Stockholm now, in Gothenburg there is two - Soulastatic which is monthly and Real side that have a few dates every year. But agreed, sometimes only 2 people is needed to create one expensive 45! And the real crazy record prices you'll find only in the UK, japanese collectors are overall more moderate.

This is very true, no sort of soul as a subculture at all in sweden and people are very eager to claim that they listen to and have interest in soul (especially female downsouth singers which the people who write for the music magazines hyped a lot so they have high credibillity now) but very few who acctually goes and cares about the music except for crate diggers/sample dudes and they don't really mix with most of the northern crowd as they tend to think it's a bit corny (most of them do) and that people should care more about music and less about prices and the UK-scene, which i think sometimes can be quite accurate.. from a Swedish perspective so to speak Although plenty of people tend to like the rare soul very much when you play it to them or make them cdrs and such /L
Simon M Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 (edited) forgot to say , the French pick up a lot of the 80's titles . However I have been told that it is a Virtual scene !! . Your right about the UK high bidders , but the Japanese always beat me to the 80's titles that are not popular yet . with a high bid Cheers Simon Edited April 5, 2006 by Simon M

But virtual scene is probably spot on description of the swedish modern scene as well! Agreed many japanese collectors dig deep probably has to do with that they have more of a collector than club scene.

Guest Dan Posted April 5, 2006 Posted April 5, 2006 thanks simon must say i can't see quite what the fuss is about - i would say it was nice, perfectly listenable, in an 80s essex soulboy sort of way, but in a pile of records i wouldn't pick it out. but then not really my sort of thing anyway. probably sounds a lot better under the right conditions, too? what's the going rate?

Steve yes, i'm sure i'm in the minority steve, just not my absolute cup of tea. mind you, very listenable and better than 99.99% of the music ever committed to wax. and as i said, in a nice bar, or in a venue if i was in the mood, probably sounds miles better. 600 quid? blimey. is that a rarity price or do people think it's miles better than lots of other 'modern' stuff (for want of a better word) that you can get for a tenner because (to my admittedly unexpert ears and after a clipped sound file) it didn't stand out from the crowd that much to me

Some great modern stuff on there Dan. yeh i have actually steve, v interesting. keb was my hero as a youngster. i do like 'modern', it's just i've never been able to devote enough time to it to really get into it. i'm one of those people who needs to listen to things over and over and over again and just work/kids/wife/being an international playboy/pornstar don't leave enough time for it these days. hence i tend to stick with my 60s and a bit of 70s. but always been open-minded, only way to be
