Guest Dan Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 (edited) if there was only one thing he had to do, any time of year, say he was out where he'd never been or in a place he was likely to know, to find a way to find this particular bird, how come he had time to stop and watch a tree grow and wonder where the wind blows, the hippie twat? mind you, that said - it's not cool, or rare, or even soulful, and the soul stasi can bang me up right now - this is the greatest northern soul record of all time to me. well, it is tonight, in my shiraz-induced cups, anyway. just played it 20 times in a row to my missus, she loves it. yes, she can hardly stay awake...i mean, hide her enthusiasm. happy, if slightly weird, days surely, everyone loves cajun hart? or has loved it. what other naff records will always hold a place in your heart? Ted Massey Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Sad Mate i was just thinking how good Cheryl Ann was
Simsy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 this is the greatest northern soul record of all time to me. Better than Pyramid? Still quite fond of Jimmy Fraser - Of hopes & dreams & tombstones.
Guest Dan Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Better than Pyramid? Still quite fond of Jimmy Fraser - Of hopes & dreams & tombstones. ooh good shout ian i was a bit pissed when i wrote that though. cajun hart is right up there for me even so sounds like a show tune but who cares

Winnie :-) Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Better than Pyramid? Still quite fond of Jimmy Fraser - Of hopes & dreams & tombstones =========== Bugg*r, I really like that record......1,2,3,4 Do we need someone to compile a 'naff' 500 (insert your.....It's already been done jokes here) Winnie:-)
Pete S Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 it's not cool, or rare, or even soulful It's all those three. And it's dramatic! Absolutely fantastic record.
wendy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I have a soft spot for Louise Lewis Weee ooooo wwwwwweeeeee Let It be - it's so awful, surely one of the worst records ever? Did it ever get played??
Guest Dan Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 It's all those three. And it's dramatic! Absolutely fantastic record. actually on reflection pete it is very cool, you're right (but not cool in a rare northern sort of way). certainly dramatic, you're right - impossible to dance to this without throwing your arms out and striking dramatic northern-style poses imo as for soulful...i suppose it's quasi soulful but is it rare? i thought quite common?
BrianB Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I have a soft spot for Louise Lewis Weee ooooo wwwwwweeeeee Let It be - it's so awful, surely one of the worst records ever? Did it ever get played?? Big at the Casino in 73 and 73. There are other versions by Karl Evans, and some one else and also the instrumental got a lot of plays. For what its worth I love it.

Did it ever get played?? Oops, I missed the above post some how. Don't actually like Cajun Hart, but do like Louise Lewis, Vocal & instrumental, and the Karl Evans(Arin Demain) Version (Oo wee Let it Be Me Babe). All big in their day around mid 1974. Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Geoffrey Meteliko did a good version of Got To Find Away too!
Catriona Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Pete Burton told me off for applying a literal critism of Cajun Heart s lyrics...apparantly it s a metaphor!!!! Or he s a time delayed photographer...or something like that. My favourite lyrics are from Greg Diamond s Hot Butterfly...even Luther cant make sense of Let me photograph my name for you with feelings I dont want to fade. And a love song of surrender and blue I remember when you took my breath away. When we were very young like butterflies, like a hot butterfly?????????
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 "Hey Little Way Out Girl" Busy are you? Aren't you suppose to be working! Beverley Ann...
Pete S Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Geoffrey Meteliko did a good version of Got To Find Away too! I have to disagree, Geoff Metalikos version is an unlistenable turd of a record, shocking in it's atrocity. And it's the original version
Simsy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 How much for this beauty? Nowt on Popsike ... Would seem they don't know ...
Guest Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I have to disagree, Geoff Metalikos version is an unlistenable turd of a record, shocking in it's atrocity. And it's the original version With you on that Pete Anyone dislike Cajun Hart listen to Geoffs version, ho ho ho is it a Matt Munroe cover up ?
Pete S Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Would seem they don't know ... Real world price £250. Had 3 of these but never had a UK issue. Seen one though. These all jump in the middle by the way, US copy doesn't jump.
Wiganer1 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 With you on that Pete Anyone dislike Cajun Hart listen to Geoffs version, ho ho ho is it a Matt Munroe cover up ? =========== i cant get over why 'Black Power' is derided like it is hes black (or sounds black),,its a stomper,it was massive and yet nearly everybody hates it plus ive got a lovely white demo of this that i cant play out.... ill get me coat!!
Simsy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Stardust one doesn't jump either (so I've been told). Just thought I'd add that.
Pete S Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 =========== i cant get over why 'Black Power' is derided like it is Because it sounds like it's sung and performed by inmates of a mental hospital. And it's shit.
Winnie :-) Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Would seem they don't know ... ============ "methinks" you may be right
Gene-r Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 if there was only one thing he had to do, any time of year, say he was out where he'd never been or in a place he was likely to know, to find a way to find this particular bird, how come he had time to stop and watch a tree grow and wonder where the wind blows, the hippie twat? His follow-up release was a cover version of "They're Coming To Take Me Away-Ha-Ha"! Seriously though, absolutely love it - always have.
Simsy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 =========== i cant get over why 'Black Power' is derided like it is hes black (or sounds black),, I'd be stunned if he wasn't. Bit of a lib singing "year's ago my people were in chains" etc. Kenny got a copy at Plinston last year for a fiver. I think it's great, full of energy ... but then it's 1985 and I'm outside Jimmy's on my Vespa 100.

Garethx Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 (edited) As an aside to all this talk of Cajun Hart, some friends of mine were in a band which had the good fortune to sign to US Warner Brothers in the early 90s. On their first trip to the states to visit the record company, one of the Vice Presidents, Jeffrey Weiss, took them to the floor of the Warners building where they kept file copies of previous releases. He asked them if there was anything they were interested in picking out, thinking that maybe they'd want some Rolling Stones or Neil Young albums. Chancing their arms, they asked for copies of Cajun Hart and Joannie Sommers "Don't Pity Me", and were gobsmacked when he arrived back just a few minutes later armed with small piles of each in pristine Dj and issue format. WB always treated its artists pretty well, it seems. Don't think the same could always be said for staff or suppliers, mind... Edited March 27, 2006 by garethx

Guest Dirk Tiggler Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 this is the greatest northern soul record of all time to me. It makes me sad & amused when people come on here and make quotes like this (being drunk is no excuse) when they had the opportunity to have it in their top five a few weeks ago but chose not to.So there. Sorry Dan, just a pathetic attempt at taking the piss following me spelling Otis Reddings name wrong - remember? Incidently, I did include it in my top 5 , but true to form, spelt it wrong! Regards Adajava script:emoticon(
Des Crombie Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I've always loved this record especially the tree growing bit... I could be wrong but I always thought the song was about losing someone and hanging around longing for them to come back, however you start to get bored but are too spaced to get off your arse and go looking for them. I sometimes get the same feelings when I'm waiting for the wife to come out of a shop. Lucky they didn't have mobile phones back then or we may never have had this song. Anyway, what's the rarest format? I have a green issue any idea of current value? Another naff record that springs to mind that I love is "Woman, Love Thief"
jocko Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Well as one of the fully paid up members of the so called soul police and very very proud of it, would like to say can't believe you like this Dan.... would like to say that but since I also think its an amazing slab of Northern (can't bring my self to add the s word on the end for this), have been known to dance to this a great number of times and spent a good year or two playing this at all my sets around the Globe (well Allanton and Edinburgh) back in the dark ages, wouldn't want to be hypocrite would I!! Quick where is my Syl Johnson LP's, retrieve my credentials!! Once I watched a tree grow, made me sleep quicker than the counting sheep alternative!

Regards Ada bit bizarre this...can't decide whether you're having a pop or, if so, why i do remember the spelling mistake bollocks. but 1. it wasn't a post to decide your all time top five northern soul records, it was your all-time top five soul records. the fact that i italicised 'northern' this time round makes the difference clear. 2. i wasn't the one who took the piss out of you for spelling it otis 'reading' - that was rob moss. i had a go at him for having a go at you. 3. in your top five, you actually call it 'gotta fid a way'. but no offence taken I also think its an amazing slab of Northern (can't bring my self to add the s word on the end for this), think that's spot-on jock - it's northern but not soul
Winnie :-) Posted March 28, 2006 Posted March 28, 2006 think that's spot-on jock - it's northern but not soul ============= In your first post you distinctly said northern "soul" Bloody soul police, they should spend there time on the real criminals, I've heard the notorious 'e-bay blaggers' are still on the loose Winnie:-)

I do remember it was Rob Moss who picked up my mistake in a mealy mouthed way & you responding to him - ta. Incidently, I did own up to spelling the title wrong & I probably put a 'e' in the groups name as well! No offence at you whatsoever, it's great to talk & listen to others talk about the brilliant record. Regards Ade
