Usa Dj's

Recommended Posts

From dealing on ebay and selling records back to where they originated from,to sometimes, dj's over in the States.............it would be nice for some input from them on this site perhaps....for example, what is the u.s "northern" scene like, how's it run,in which areas, current big sounds,dj's etc.Another interesting point would be dj times, average dj fees,POLITICS?....and the punters, ethnic origins etc......... whistling.gif

Eh? We do input to the site?

There are no politics as yet. Thank God.

Try these for a gateway to the US Scene

Thanks Dave,I do access your site from time to time, excellent too......John.

Some excellent DJ's out here & with open minds too Mike from Cali, Jason Thornton, Miss Shingaling, Brian Harris, Brian Poust, Marco etc, etc, I think that the only thing holding the US back from a full blown scene as we know it, is the logistics of travelling to venues..................do's are more localised with bigger do's fewer & far between, the exception of course is the Bakersfield Allnighter which is monthly & to my shame I never made yet, but I will (small problem of a flight from coast to coast)...........................there is of course the now legendary Hitsville Florida Nighter, which will be on again in September......................so come on you lot, get the flights booked, already more bookings for the weekend than last year & the buzz is big for the next one, so come & see for yourself, some serious record dealing went down last year too, its great for the sounds.

Cheers buddy, I will make it over to you guys soon, whats your July & August dates Mike BTW.

Russ

Nothing in stone, Russ.We can work around it to make sure you can do it. Only thing is clashing with the L.A. events, which we try to avoid if possible. Just let me know when it's best for you as there's plenty of time to make it happen!

Good a time as any to jump in i guess...

I think the big difference here is that because of the distances, DJs are much more localized that in uk or europe, eh? So while there are some big names and events in nyc, cali, florida, and such, a lot of the places in the middle of the country - where the records are! - just kind of get on by themselves, which is both good and bad.

Here in Pittsburgh there are some good dj's and good (and very popular) nights - each of the two monthly "northern soul" nights in town do 200-300 people/month in what's a fairly small town. I know that Milwaukee, Detroit, Cincinnati, and of course Chicago all have fairly bustling northern scenes, and of course the new york and California gigs. But most people in each of those towns - even the Djs - may not have ever been to an event in another town.

A lot of people in England I think would be pretty surprised at how vibrant the soul-music scenes are around the u.s. As you can tell, this is just gonna turn into a tourism advert for Pittsburgh... :sweatingbullets:

You have a website or can you let me know the future dates of your soul night? I'd like to visit Pittsburgh this summer & would like to take in some sounds while I'm there.

Yeah - soulcialism.blogspot.com stays relatively up to date with our dates 'n'whatnot. And/or PM me to get on the email list.

Pittsburgh's still teeming with records, and definitely worth a shopping trip regardless of anything else - especially before the mighty Jerry's Records store gets sold!! (Which will happen within the next 6 months.)

Gene Merideth and Greg Tormo will be spinning rare soul 45s at DC's Tavern in Hoboken, NJ on Thursday, April 20th. The fun starts around 9PM and goes until we collapse in a drunken stupor. Free admission, cheap booze. DC's is located at 505 8th Street, smack-dab in the middle of Hoboken, NJ.

It will be a pleasure to see Gene at SOULTRIPUSA later this month.
