JimK Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Just got hold of Emorise Kelly singing Biggest Fool - it's been a long time since I shuddered during a song - any thoughts on this track or the man himself?? Was written by "Bono" on Peacock 1919.
Chalky Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 I used to play this in my sets in the 80's. When I started collecting again I bought it to again as I'd not really heard it out since then and I still give it the odd spin now, had quite a few come and look and ask about it. There is a slightly rarer release credited to Emorise "Schoolboy" Kelly (think it's schoolboy ). Excellent record
Guest Dan Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) Just got hold of Emorise Kelly singing Biggest Fool - it's been a long time since I shuddered during a song - any thoughts on this track or the man himself?? Was written by "Bono" on Peacock 1919. great r&b soul with a really gravelly vocal. about £20 i think. vernon morrison vaguely remembers him as a southern texas singer who was drafted and died in vietnam in about 1968. only one known record, this one (afaik), which is a real shame. Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 Been in my play box for years, are they all promo`s?,never seen a issue!!
JimK Posted March 26, 2006 Author Posted March 26, 2006 Many thanks for the info - appreciate that. Shame how his life ended before he could cut more tracks though.
JimK Posted April 10, 2006 Author Posted April 10, 2006 Thanks for all your help on this one, just to let you all know what I found out: Emorise was also known as E Morris Kelley who sang with the Paramounts. There was an issue copy of this record on Peacock but issued later - I have a scan but not sure if I have posted it correctly! It was written by Bono (sonny) and apparently he was working for speciality at the time. They were bought out by Peacock and he went as well as the promotional man. A simple question throws up so many questions!!! Cheers all Jimbo!

Cheers all Jimbo! that's interesting jim. just googled e morris kelley and the paramount singers and it suggests kelley joined the band in the 50s. if that's right, i'd be amazed if he was actually drafted as per my earlier post . either my memory is playing tricks or vernon's was. none of which clears up who or where he is . fascinating, this stuff, cos e kelley definitely deserved a wider audience
Garethx Posted April 11, 2006 Posted April 11, 2006 Emorise Kelly actually from Oakland originally. Sang in the same gospel quintet as Buddy Conner (they must have been good...)
