Steve G Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 They need to have their ears syringed - great blue eyed soul beat ballad!
Garethx Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 If you view the Dan Folger record as a piece of singer-songwriter pop from the classic age, like Tim Hardin or Jimmy Webb rather than as a pice of soul music, it's actually a phenomenally well-crafted record. Interestingly, from the press advertisement reproduced in a Kent CD, it was marketed very definitely as an example of blue-eyed soul. I personally love this record and think it does still have a place on the scene: I wouldn't want to hear it everywhere I go, but played occasionally it does still have the power to evoke a strong feeling of nostalgia.

What do others think of this ender ? remember it as don folger, could be wrong. First heared about this record via blues and soul back in the early 70's, it seemed to get mentioned every week, so someone was playing it then. When I eventually got to hear it some years later, thought it was an excellent beat ballad, and a good choice as a finisher. SHEEP

Can't agree with the comment that it's not soulful Gareth ? I think it's as soulful as they come with angst aplenty. Are you basically saying then, that it can't be a soul record because the artist is not black ?? Or if not, what constitutes a soul record to you then ? Not trying to knock you , just interested in another persons perception of soul ? Mind you i think that one has been debated on here no end & nobody has ever come to a conclusion that everyone agrees with ! Edited March 24, 2006 by B-side-B
Guest Posted March 24, 2006 Posted March 24, 2006 (edited) I don't really see where Gareth stated it wasn't a soul record, yet once again you twist words to suit your particular viewpoint.ie....Does the artist have to be black to constitute a soul record ! As i read Gareth's post he claimed it was a track that he enjoyed, yet would choose not to hear it every other week, echoing my sentiments entirely. The type of events that i pick and choose to attend would not have Dan Folger in their playlist, this isn't detrimental to the tune (I actually own, and like it) but feel that it's time has come and gone. I always considered the rare soul scene in the UK as a continually moving and ever evolving beast, one that is always burying it's old and grieving the necessary length of time, before moving on and once again enjoying life to the full....... Brett If you view the Dan Folger record as a piece of singer-songwriter pop from the classic age, like Tim Hardin or Jimmy Webb rather than as a pice of soul music, it's actually a phenomenally well-crafted record. I may be thick Brett, but i think that says it's not a soul record, dosen't it ? I bet you feel good now don't you Brett !! Been milling over everything i write just so you could vent your spleen because i happened to say something you didn't like ? If you look again at my reply to Gareth without your one track glasses on, you will see that i tried to force the point that i was not putting him down, only interested in his view point on what is a soul record because he didn't think it was soulfull & that it was a blue eyed soul record, hence my link to a soul record having to be by a black artist. Just like i tried to say to you , three or four times !, that what i wrote in reply to your comments on people not attending soul events, was not a personal attack on you ! Something that was also pointed out to you by others that read it ! But you chose to throw your toys out of the pram ! like you appear to do in most instances on here from what i can see ! Initialy i thought you were a funny guy with a sharp caustic wit, but i got to be honest all i am starting to see now is a bully who seems to think he is king of the road ! So i tell you what Brett, you get off my back & i will stay away from following up any of your comments, that way everyone is happy & it dosen't impact on other people's enjoyment on Soul Source !! Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) Jesus, I cannot believe that my response to your post has spirited such a reaction from you...... "Bully"..Manalive where did you get that from, I'll tell you now my good fellow, if you read things like that into my obviously measured post then you seriously have bigger problems than I originally thought. Yes I wasn't happy with you hi-jacking a post of mine in a totally separate thread (which in effect was a total tongue in cheek response to another member of the site) and then giving yourself the chance to wallow in self-pity. We all have had serious problems in life, the difference between you and me.....Is I dealt with mine.. I'm just trying to think of someone who less interests me than you do.....consider yourself on ignore. Edited March 25, 2006 by Brett

Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 You B****** Davie !!! I can't get it out of my head now. Don't suppose you have a favourite i could ruin for you ?
Guest rachel Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 (edited) Don't think I've ever heard this out... wouldn't mind hearing it as an ender occasionally... "don't you know baby, it's your life, and yours alone, you got a mind of your own" - used to have that as my signature on here for a while Edited March 25, 2006 by rachel

Guest Posted March 25, 2006 Posted March 25, 2006 i do have loads of favourites but i like r'n'b so you may not know any of em Hey don't be so quick to judge Davie !! I'm partial to a bit of R&B too ! More & more so actually. Probably won't know that many, but then i may have some that you havent heard, who knows, but i'm not a total heathen just cause i like the Dan Folger track !! I think i am like the majority of Nsoul fans who like a bit of everything & judge the record on how it sounds to me rather than what pigeon hole it is in. 60's oldies are my real favourite & some of the 70's/80's disco-ish ones are probably my least, but there are some in each that i like

Corbett80 Posted March 26, 2006 Posted March 26, 2006 Love the Dan Folger, great ender. Its on Elf isn't it?
