Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Just got off the phone to Crazybeat & they had a 10" demo but thats gone too , the lady was impressed then .. the phrase " lounge lizard " springs to mind Sorry mate, you're not having mine Yup, she was impressed indeed - the Beeb were using it several months back on a TV trail, and as you know, it's one of those that kinda gets inside your head! Hippo.
Guest garv Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Mp3 if you waht it Cheers Miff thanks for the offer but got it on mp3......... you just cant beat the real thing.
Neiljon31 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 very heavy radio 1 rotation and on the tv ad for zane lowe evening show....and to confirm its mass appeal....record of the week with Ken Bruce on Radio 2. Banker for number 1 spot when released. Quite odd cos tunes much better than this are being released all the time by little labels particularily out of New York / New Jersey and beyond, this is a little quirky gets a push from the right source and bang its a massive top ten hit and then its a pop record,or was it always a pop record?. I do quite like the tune but am sick to death of it and thats a month before its release and only hearing it when I'm in a car for work. If Zane Lowe chose to push the Ron Hall track would the same thing happen...now its a convenient radio friendly 7" it might just happen.Actually I bet a 7" is hardly radio friendly these days.

You have raised some interesting points here Neil, i dont listen to music radio for the reasons you have outlined but i would rather a track like "crazy" reach no:1 than the normal pop shite if only to get some decent black music back in focus to the mainstream audience, its got to be better than 50 cent & all the rap pap . There`s some really good rap that never gets played & aint all about bitches & guns, bling bling etc etc, radio by nature has to make a profit in its highly competitive market so a lot of dumbing down is the order of the day ( always has been). Any chance of putting up some sound files of the other sounds mentioned above, love to hear new stuff .
Neiljon31 Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 too right its better than the usual crap. I'm afraid putting up soundfiles is a bit beyond me at the moment I would say check out recent release by Mr Ali & Glenn Underground--Imagine Freedom on Unified, sound clips on Juno. Amazing tune, brilliant lyrics. Not everyones cup of tea on here I realsie but as soulful as anything I think.
Jerry Hipkiss Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 (edited) Here's a scan of (most of) the 10" demo... Hippo. Edited March 16, 2006 by Jerry Hipkiss
Derek Pearson Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 First heard this maybe 2-3 weeks ago on The Rev FM out of the ghetto they call Oldham. Liked it immediately. DJ said they were playing it off a download. Not often I feel compelled to buy a chart record but this makes me wanna. Peace or summat, derek
Chalky Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 shouldn't this be in the pop section might be black but soul
leev Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Sorry mate, you're not having mine Yup, she was impressed indeed - the Beeb were using it several months back on a TV trail, and as you know, it's one of those that kinda gets inside your head! Hippo. [/quote It's been doin' the rounds in commercial pubs and clubs for a while, i dropped it in the middle of a commercial 70s night in Newquay recently and rammed the floor. i've down loaded other G.B. stuff but to be honest it wasn't a patch on crazy, flash in the pan me thinks.
Guest SteveC Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 Sorry folks but this is as soulful as todays charts get. Gnarls has imo a totally soulful voice and the track is a great tune. You know its good when the Radio 1 breakfast show crew start slagging it off and yougsters interviewed are critical of it ( I hasten to add that I'm not tarring all younsters with the same brush) Anyway heres the clip. Make your own mind up if you haven't already. Remember - its not shit - Just that certain people won't like it!!
Guest Posted May 12, 2006 Posted May 12, 2006 I caught this on TOTP two weeks ago. I sat there, gob open and eye's wide! The soul coming out of his face moved me! I think the live performance beat the cd recording hands down. The screaching of the lyric Crazy did it for me.. I felt just what he was singing. I was mesmerised! So much so I went and bought the album! Smiley Faces is another fantastic stomper of a track.. been skidding round my conservatory to that for the last couple of days. Makes a change to play something in the car that takes full advantage of my 6 speakers to be honest Refreshing, mighty and better than anything I've heard in the charts for eons! I'm after his Cee-Lo Green... is the Soul Machine album now.. I bet it'll be fantastic
