I've just dug the vinyl out of storage and there is a question I have about the above track. When I got various CDs with it on, at the end of the middle "Rap?" bit the CD versions appear to jump. Where my vinyl (yellow trans boot/reisssue etc) doesn't. Anyone else noticed this, is it a different mix or a fault in Grapevines(this should read GOLDMINE, and is an error) "master" CD version?.

I love this subject.

There are definately edited versions with that "jump"-no question of that and it sounds exactly like a needle jump to me not an edit. My yellow "Trans" 45 doesn't have the 'jump' either Paul.

Whats interesting is - from memory-the 'Black Magic' version-which is supposedly not Bob Relf - does have the jump. To my ears the 'Black Magic' version is just the original recording overdubbed with strings and elongated. So it begs the question- where does the 45 with the 'jump' originate? Is it a bootleg? Because that would mean that a lot of the CD versions are dubbed from what's either an edited or faulty 45 or a bootleg which has somehow become the version on CD. I don't think the Grapevine CD versions are the 'jump' version though-are they?

I also noticed this as my Trans-American copy on Vinyl doesn't jump wheras the C.D. track does

However, if you find a copy of C'MON & DANCE VOLUME 1 - GSCD 8Z - You will find a Track on C.D. without the annoying jump.

I think that a lot of early C.D.'s were sourced from Original Tapes & 45 . This may explain this anomally.

Is this supposed to be a joke or are you getting mixed up ???

The Grapevine version does not jump but all the other versions (Goldmine etc) do jump! This is because they were carelessly dubbed from a faulty pressing. The Grapevine version was remastered from the original tapes from Ray Charles' RPM studios. You can read about this on our website: www.millbrand.com

I can also confirm that the Grapevine issue was the FIRST LEGAL ISSUE in the UK as it was licensed from Millbrand. Previously, all other UK issues were unauthorised ...which means that Bob Relf never got a penny.

And the Black Magic version from 1975 is by an impostor.

Please check your facts.

Ok keep your hair on. If I have caused offence then I apologise, as far as I know the GRAPEVINE version does not jump.

I accidently typed GRAPEVINE when I should have typed GOLDMINE.

The clue was in the fact that I mentioned "Various CD versions" and "Master CD version"

I also know that the Black Magic version has nothing to do with good taste. In fact I was in Russ's shop when Mr Soussan was playing his demos of this, Paula Roussell, Thumb a ride and other travesties(not that any of this has any bearing on my original error)

Apology accepted, Paul. I suppose it's an easy mistake to type "Grapevine" instead of "Goldmine" ...but the result was unfortunate !

Thanks,

Sorry again. I've put a note on the original post rather than just changing it. This should emphasise the correction.
