Dayo Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I dug out Roy Lee Johnson's Boogaloo No. 3 last night. Hadn't heard it decades. UK Action copies were quite easy to come by and it was one of the first things I ever bought. I never heard it played out (in my day) - the beat was just a little too funky and perhaps it didn't rack up against instrumentals of the quality of Bari Track, Exus Trek, Festival Time etc. Maybe it's been a hit on our scene at some venues, I've been away tooooo long. I know a few so called rare groove jocks jumped on it. However.... Has this record aged well or what?! Boogaloo No. 3 If you haven't heard it in a while, crank it up loud. You might be glad you paid it another visit - I was. Colin

Colin One of those batch of 45s in my early teens when a mod that got me into soul /northern etc. I like it always have personally but then I spun Hosanna - Hip It after years and thought it sounded pretty good . . . Sebastian Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Nice gritty instrumental. I personally prefer the flipside.
Will Macc Posted March 2, 2006 Posted March 2, 2006 It was a massive record on the 80s mod scene - don't let that put you off though I did a night called Boogaloo #3 at Xmas playing quite a lot of this boogaloo type stuff along with some northern, latin and funk - Dean Ruland, Eddie Piller and Si Cheeba joined me on the decks. Cracking night, but then I would say that. Oh and Andy Smith included it on one of his Document mix compilations.

Guest smigger Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 Always play it when a mate invites me to dj at his club. As said earlier, goes down well with a mixed crowd. Have been told that one of the big name djs is spinning a lot lately. Don't know if that's true or not

I presume from your ID and the mention of Si Cheeba that this is Will from Macclesfield? If so, how are you mate - not seen ya for years...oh and welcome to Soul Source! Edited March 3, 2006 by Mace
