Gene-r Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 This is the first time I have paid attention to the lyrics - aren't they just awesome! Pulls at the heart strings in just a few lines!
Steve G Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 This is the first time I have paid attention to the lyrics - aren't they just awesome! Pulls at the heart strings in just a few lines! It's the "little naive" bit that gets me - I was never able to work out what he was singing at that point......Paul are we to assume this is coming out on Grapevine then? A worthy replacement for my knackered styrene copy with DJ run in hiss and considerable surface noise then
Guest Doris Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 This record is pure class ......................... nice to hear what i've been singing has been err correct LOLOL - always loose myself on the dancefloor when this is played - hits the spot Doris
Geoff Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Thanks for putting up the lyrics of this masterpiece. Love dancing to this and singing along, but the words are hard to follow, the backing seems a bit loud in places. Hope Martin Thomson plays this tomorrow at Walls Of Heartache.
sister dawn Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Back that with a haunting melody, what a tune, ya dont realise just how brill that is til you see it written down like that.
Guest Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Lyric sheets should be handed out before its played so we can all sing along. Glad to see that the odd snippet I have been joining in with was right.
Gene-r Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 You're all deaf Aurally challenged if you please, Pete!!
Guest Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 To be honest i'm not overly bothered about hearing "classic" northern tracks, but this was played at Soulsville last night, and it sounded so good. Because of the type of venue i attend, you don't really get to hear that many of the standards of the scene, but i absolutley loved this 45' last night. Always remember picking that e.p up with it on (Boot) back in the early 80's at Rotherham. Great lyrics (glad you wrote them, as i'm rubbish with knowing what they sing)
Guest Matt Male Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Is it just me or is it nicer sometimes to not know the lyrics? I know loads of half songs and sometimes it's nice just to know a snippet or make up a bit yourself when dancing away, or the chorus at least. Having said that, The Nomads - Somethings Bad has cracking lyrics.
Guest martyn Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 If a bloke stopped me in the park I would either give him 10p or level him Top tune though.
Sweeney Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 "Son I told you all I can Now you see what it takes to be a man We must hold our head up high I'm a man, I'm a man" Sometimes we become so jaded by scene politics and "etiquette" that we forget about all the things this beautiful music can mean to so many. Pure poetry - Isn't this what SOUL MUSIC should be about? A man telling it like it is through the medium of song. Thanks to Paul for posting the lyrics - this has enhanced my appreciation of this beautiful track - and possibly the whole Rare Soul genre - which in these cynical days is no mean feat! Get in my son!
Popular Post Mark Bicknell Posted February 26, 2006 Popular Post Posted February 26, 2006 This is the first time I have paid attention to the lyrics - aren't they just awesome! Pulls at the heart strings in just a few lines! I'm shocked Gene....is it not the fundimental most important part of being into the music to actually listen, feel and understand the lyrics...i sit alone hours on end sometimes with a set of headphones on trying to soak up every heartfelt emotion that this music can project......possibly why i'm such a moody sad bastard i know.....lol Some of these songs are simply poetry...i've said it before to sing about it you have had to live...i feel many of the performers did just that. vaultofsouler Posted March 3, 2006 Posted March 3, 2006 (edited) Spot on with the lyrics. Just played the track from The Soul Club and followed the lyrics at the same time on SS - magical! Brian Just read this thread properly for first time and have to add my bit here because I'm not quite sure about the "spot on" bit re the lyrics Brian.... follow/listen to them a little closer.... this is one of them tunes I always seem to recall the lyrics to even when "p*ss*d" at a soul nite/niter as it's always been I fave of mine due to "everything" about it including the "heartfelt lyrics".... masterful IMO.... The "millbrand copyright" printed ones are probably what are/were on the original "lyric sheet" .... BUT not quite what he sang if you listen closely.... I've re-written the original lyrics from above in blue.... the bits I've put in RED CAPITALS are what ARE sang different/extra.... the words left in black are from the above original lyrics but are the missing, different or replaced words.... I'm sure you'll get what I mean if you "sing-a-long" again.... These slight "differences" in lyrics, and I'm sure there's more records that don't follow the original written words, show to me how the artist/group get "into" what their doing and "just do it".... brilliant IMO as gives the record it's soulfulness.... Added this.... for your ease of playing the tune .... ---------------- I woke up early this morning looking around for my love But her sweet voice I didn't hear, noWHERE Stopped a man in the park, yes I did And asked him why the women do the things they do He said son there's something every man must realise, yeah THEN HE SAID Lord made Adam and he made Eve, yeah He made them both, yes he did, a little naive, yeah It takes a man with insight, yes it does, to really understand, yeah We all go through some changes in life before we're considered a man, yeah Don't let today's problems get you down, no The CUZ time THAT she's been cryin' will surely bring her back around, yes it will Son I told you all I can Now you see what it takes to be a man We I must hold our head up high I'm a man, I'm a man I'll be ready TO come what may She'll be back, I know, some day The Lord made Adam and he made Eve, yeah He made them both, yes he did, a little naive, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will, yes she will, yeah She'll be back, yes she will, yes she will, I know she will She'll come running back to me, yes she will.... YEAH, YEAH, ALRIGHT YES SHE WILL, YEAH.... ---------------- Lets have more lyrics of the "hard to hear/understand" tunes put up on here I say .... makes for good reading/interpretation .... Simon T Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Anyone know what are the lyrics to "Sister Lee"…….? the 'ad libbing' aside, there are only two verses can't nobody cook the way you do I'm unable and just helpless without you all night long I cry and I moan you went away and now all my loving has gone anything you want I wanna see you with it I'll work 15 hours to see that you get it baby I'll be, lord, your number one fool just to get some of that sweet loving from you

Thanks old chap. I was, however, being facetious.....
Sjclement Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 "We all go through changes in life before we're considered man" I've always heard that as "Women go through changes in life in more ways than a man" Given the sentiment of the song I've always considered this to be right, I stand corrected.

I always assumed it was "All folk go through changes in life..."
Bazza Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Well,I don't know what you lot see in this tune, does absolutely nowt for me ,£800 quid plus ,give over Bazza
Diddy Morgan Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 just reading the lyrics sends a shiver up my back awesome!!!
Dave2 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Never sussed the full lyrics - thanks for posting. My obvious interpretation is always an ironic lament at the end.... There's no way she's ever coming back you knob...!!! How many more times you gotta keep repeating yourself until you get the message!! Kin' move on! (Else you'll end up old & lonely... living in your allotment shed - surrounded by rubble, garden canes, and discarded piles of Baileys... (her favourite drink) er.... (lyrics to bricks, broken bottles & sticks. anyone?) Killer strings.
Nittygritty67 Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Last year me and my mates tried to figure out the lyrics of Jerry Butler´s "Stop Stepping On My Dreams". We all feel that they are outstanding poetry, but we don´t know whether we got them right. If you have any ideas for approvements, please let me know... Thanks, Reinhard "Save the babies, that’s what I say Save the babies I see a whole lot of folks shooting down the babies And I got a couple of little guys that are just growing up And I really get kind of shook up when I look around See folks puttin’ down what they’re puttin’ down It seems like I could hear ’em saying Everybody keeps talkin’ ’bout the world And what it’s coming to You know, they say we can’t get it together And it’s the end for me and you But hey, I just really started living A few days ago And I dream of things I’ve never seen And places I ain’t been before So I’ve got a few helpful phrases of people who singing those praises Stop thinking with your behind and take up the signs that are reasons for rhymes And stop stepping on my dreams Give me a chance, give me a chance, Please give me a chance You know most folks are scared of dying So the fear brings it near And I see ’em buying books to get to heaven But they fight real hard to stay right here Now the prophets gave us the solution They said, “love your fellow man” Y’all mistook it for pollution And tried to wash your dirty hands But dig it Everything is temporary And I think it’s kind of necessary to Stop thinking with your behind and my changes are signs They are reasons for lives and Hey y’all, why don’t you get out of my dreams Hey you, I want you to stop stepping on my dreams" 1
ashley Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Can someone post the lyrics to Sad Girl. Carol Anderson. Lol
Frankie Crocker Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Well,I don't know what you lot see in this tune, does absolutely nowt for me ,£800 quid plus ,give over Bazza Baz, I once felt a bit like this until it got spun at the 100 Club and it took the roof off with a packed dance floor and everyone clapping in unison, one of the best ever atmospheres there. I decided then, I would add Mel Britt to the collection. Owning a record helps you to really appreciate it's qualities so I recommend picking it up for $8 if you get the chance or £1,000 plus if you can as it's not going to drop in price.
