The 'Look At Your Box' forum description (at the top of the page) has been updated to try and make it a bit clearer as to what should go in this bit! That is...

This forum is the place for discussion of all things vinyl/collecting related - tell everyone about your latest buys, ask questions on prices, labels etc, share facts, rumours, legends, tips, laughs and stories, including questions/ comments on eBay and similar. Requests for soundfiles should also be posted in this section.

As posted by Mike in 'Site Stuff', the idea of a separate 'What's It Worth' section was discussed but decided it should stay in here for just now. However, to make it clear that a topic is about value, could topic starter please prefix the title with "Value:" e.g. "Value: Dobie Gray - Out On The Floor", "Value: Mike & the Moderators - Moderating Blues"

That way people who can assist will click, and people who can't or aren't interested can avoid.

Thanks

Main concern when we discussed a "What's It Worth" section was how to work it to avoid too much overlap with the box forum - should threads be moved if the conversations moves away from just value, for example?

Was felt this would work best for now, but always open to suggestions

It would be easier if values were in one place IMO. That way if adding values to some sort of database or spreadf sheet it's easier to maintain with values all in one place.

Could make it a sub section of look at your box then discussion wouldn't really be a problem?

Maybe a few could set up an on-line sort of price guide  what with changing values so much now adays, would be easy to update?? proberly be some speculation to what some things are actually worth, but a realistic price would be nice to see on a lot of things??

It would be good, I quite often want to know what something is worth and if there was a section for that I could just go and look it up

Actually I think a What's It Worth section is a brilliant idea, for what it's worth

Yep, will be good to have another set of prices other than JM's to look at

Not forgetting pestering Smiffy most weeks for prices on stuff ;-)

Theres enough people here, to do it  could rather than set figures, a sort of range of what things are actually selling for, e.g The Royal Five - say it to my face - Tyler (issue) £60-£80 where as its quoted at £200 in the books

I've actually seen the Royal Five sell for over a ton so it would be a pretty big range, still wouldn't give someone wanting a value much idea with a difference of say £65.

If values all in one place a spread sheet pretty easy to maintain by someone and every now and then uploaded as attachment. You would need price for demo and issue as well.

Only thing is though won't it in return generate 1,000's of one line emails which will clog the site up and make it run slow again, or will the posts be put together or in alphabetical order for ease of viewing/finding what you are looking for?

Values are asked for already elsewhere so wouldn't be any difference, as long as the post is relevant and useful can't see a problem, it's when it's one line posts full of crap thats the problem  This is just an idea to make it easier for people wanting vlaues and not to clog up other parts of forum.

Suppose you could get round it with taking top end and the lower end and meeting half way

Let's see how it goes with using the "Value:" prefix in here for now, and if it gets enough use will look at moving into a separate section.

All you have to do is ask

Very true and its usually answered, just would maybe be easier to be able to look something up rather than bother people
