Guest micksmith Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 it's great-got all these keep them prices climbing. just sold a copy of e/mosley for £500-dame sold it too cheap.
Guest micksmith Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 I bid on a record on there and won it for what I thought was the 'right' price, so i'd say they probably do exist..... And you can probably bet they are the same ones who say they picked the record up for a couple of $s in a detroit basement, just to look like they are a top digger... WOOF! link YOU'RE THE ONLY PERSON I KNOW WHO'S BOUGHT SOMETHING OFF HIM. ANYBODY ELSE GOT ANYTHING OFF HIM-OR ARE YOU TOO SHY TO TELL US.
Guest Dan Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 (edited) I bid on a record on there and won it for what I thought was the 'right' price, so i'd say they probably do exist..... And you can probably bet they are the same ones who say they picked the record up for a couple of $s in a detroit basement, just to look like they are a top digger... WOOF! link To be fair, I bought Gwenn Douglass off his auction at an inflated price a year or so back (£300 but I've loved it for years and rarely if ever saw one so was prepared to pay it) and I also tried hard to get Johnny Rodgers until it went totally mad. So some of the bids obviously are real. But I just can't believe that EVERY record he sells gets these prices...if you stuck them on ebay, which must have a much bigger market, you wouldn't get £271 for Bobby Sheen (great record though it is IMO) surely? And it's not like the people who are bidding on Manship auctions i) haven't got computers ii)) haven't heard of eBay iii) have never seen or heard of another Bobby Sheen being offered for sale. Just weird IMO. Edited November 18, 2004 by Dan
Pete S Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 Those auctions don't have a fixed end time either - every time a bid goes on, the end time is extended
jimmy clitheroe Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 just curious, any body know which u.s auction site frank wilson went for $33000
Guest cC B Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 just curious, any body know which u.s auction site frank wilson went for $33000 link I think this whole thing was just a joke. Read the full story somewhere.
Godzilla Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 just curious, any body know which u.s auction site frank wilson went for $33000 link I think it was Record Collector Mags "Gulliblestories'r'us.com"
jimmy clitheroe Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 i read it in the record collector magazine a couple of months ago,i think r searling did the article,no sure though, good stitch up
Guest Posted November 18, 2004 Posted November 18, 2004 (edited) I don't think these people really exist, myself. link They do exist, or at least I actually got the money for a couple of records he auctioned on my behalf some time back. Troy Dodds at £859 would be a bit steep even before they turned up, and now after quite a few copies surfaced? The Cautions on Shrine at £1309(!) that has sold SEVERAL times on ebay in the last year for less than £500. I don't understand how a discrepancy of over £800 is possible, how can a record that has sold more than a few times at £400 - £500 suddenly sell for £1300+, especially weird when at least I think there are more copies where these came from.
