Quinvy Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Just wondered. Saw that Pete Smith was offering a copy on here, then I got a list off Ian Clarke, he's got one, and now there's one on ebay. Just a coincedence ? I thought that it was dog rare. I was thinking of buying one, but not so sure now. Anyone know anything ? Phil.
Chalky Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 even wth the three up for sale it's still very rare.

Pete S Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 The one on Ebay is the one I put the feelers out for. The same chap also sold one a few months previously, but he only had the two.
Ted Massey Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Apparently Guy bought one of John Manship for £2 got mine of Paul who worked in Kev Roberts shop in Mansfield

Pete S Posted February 17, 2006 Posted February 17, 2006 Sounds like a tenth rate dirge to me, but hey, so did Mr Lucky

If so I'd disagree completely.... comes across as a bit condescending to buyers of stuff that's not "rare" or that "turn up" and so lose their rarity meaning they can now be off loaded to those of us that aren't that particular.... "rare" doesn't necessarily mean "good".... some so called "dog rare" stuff ought to be rephrased "dog sh*te".... all IMO of course.... Irrespective of rarity, I think The Goovettes is OK and would fit nicely alongside a "cheapie" like Robert Parker's I Caught You In A Lie.... just as an example....

Interesting point Mark, and one that so many in todays scene seem to miss (with my grumpy old head on again), to me this is just a great record and the cheaper the better as I can then have one, as you say the confusion between rarity and quality gets scary at times. I would love to own rare tunes but would rather have 1000 outstanding tunes than 100 "dog rare"" tunes. Glad to see there are at least some other people out there who think like that!!! Jock

Think you've misunderstood my point mate. I love the record, but don't want to pay over a grand for one, only to find that it's turned up in quantity. I'd rather wait in that case for the price to drop. And, there are also many rare items that I don't like, so, no need to take offence at a perfectly reasonable question. I just don't want to get burned, "again" that's all. Phil.

I probably have misunderstood Phil.... that's why I put the "sorry" bit first.... Just saw/read the "not buying because not rare bit" and wondered why as read it as "I'm now not buying now because it's no longer rare".... I can now see "why your not buying" from your reply mate.... Didn't take offence .... I just read differently from how put accross/typed on here .... that's the trouble with reading on a forum rather than chatting face to face.... you don't read it the same as you'd hear it .... Apologies if any offence took but as Jock says it's a part of the scene that often gets misunderstood/misinterpretated when broached on here.... Edited February 18, 2006 by vaultofsouler
vaultofsouler Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 Sh*t.... notice I've had to edit both previous posts as I've just got in and hand/eye coordination is not at its best .... Anyway... back on topic and answers to Phil's original post please .... p.s. notice how this post has took a while to do due to re-reading and then editing typing errors before posting ....
