Guest Karen Heath Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I am looking for my old friend Pete Robinson.I know there is more than one Mr Robinson on the soul scene but the one I am looking for is formerly of Wisbech, (his parents lived there anyway) He also lived in other places including York and was last seen heading for Brighton a few years ago which is when we lost touch. I was spurred on to find him when I just heard the Caviar soundfile in a post-it always reminds me of him. Anyone know?
Guest Karen Heath Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Excuse me for bumping this up-it disappeared at the speed of light this morning. Anyone know him?

I know he was getting into presenting-I want to see him on the news! I was going to put a photo up but with him being all respectable, they may not be appropriate, especially the ones of him mooning. Guest SteveC Posted February 19, 2006 Posted February 19, 2006 Must admit Karen, as he was someone I went to soul events with in the late 70's/80's before he started knocking around with Keb and co. I was shocked to see him freelancing for Meridian at teatime some years ago. The cherry on the cake is he bimbled into the Volks at Brighton a few years ago with his skateboard under his arm, had a boogie for a couple of hours (he was always a fine dancer) and skated off. I may have a contact number for him if you get stuck - somewhere. For now heres a phot of him in the 80's at Cleggers Winter Gardens. The Prof as we used to call him.

Thanks for the photo-is he wearing some type of bow-tie? How funny! I did some detective work and I think I may have tracked him down. I won't say anything now but it looks intriguing-might try the number today. He may however, not want to be found! Will report back!

Mr C... you may be bigger than me.. put posting a photo of me wearing a bow tie.. I might have to bring you down with my rather creaky floorwork next time I see you! Remember, I have photos of you in a flying suit.. I'm now trying to think of the name of the girl sitting next to me in the picture - she was from Wisbech too - it'll come to me. You can repay me by getting me a Northern slot in Brighton.. still have the first record I ever bought - Soul Twins - Quick Change Artist (I seem to remember the b-side is v good too). I went to my first soul nights about 73/74 in East Anglia.. that's 30 years! Jeez the music is still with me tho. Well, done Karen for finding me after all these years.. I asked her the question where's Colin Roughley? Me Colin, Keb and Pete Marshall used to travel quite a bit. I remember a strange incident with a missing feral cat in your little flat.. You can see my latest project at www.thesurfingmuseum.co.uk and email, phone me through there. My day job is still working for ITV full time.. I'm not one for forums.. won't be logging back in I'm sorry to say. I'll sign off by saying 'aloha' to Karen, Steve, Keb, Amanda, Ady, Ian Clark.. god so many friends left behind around the country - it's a shame.. time passes you by.. THE Pete Robinson
Gene-r Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Hi Pete, Been a long time since the Sunday nite soul events in West London - 1983 I believe. Those were the ones you, Keb and Colin Roughley did for a while. I used to hang around there with Mick Webb (Cockney Mick), Karl Simmonds and Darrel Simmonds (no relation). Wonder what they're all doing now? Glad to see you're still around and that you're keeping well! All the best, Gene Robertson (hope you remember me; it's been about 20 years!).

Blimey Gene - I'd forgotten about the Capital Soul Club.. I seem to remember we had Tony 'the Vicar' Clayton.. and Soul Sam guest DJ for us!!! You got me going... We should arrange a beered up dancing session in Brighton one day..
Guest Karen Heath Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 See you in Brighton soon. Will bring roller skates......surfboards, skateboards, roller skates-they're all the same.
binsy Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Hi Pete, I remember a soul do early 80's next to Fulham Broadway station upstairs. Hand made flyer (included Family of Eve & Chryslers+ Monarchs). It's been a long, long time. Keb was involved. All the best Mark Taylor

THE Pete Robinson Well blow me down. Good to hear from you Pete. There's a certain lady on this forum who has the photo of me in that flying suit - not to be confused with the Northampton A team Hope you do visit the forum from time to time as I'm sure you'll be able to spread some extra light and anecdotes on some of the threads. Know you're number and able to contact you thru the "surf site" so lets keep in touch mate.
