Every month I get at least one time-wasting "customer" who orders a record or a pile of records, says they will send a cheque and I never hear from them again.....despite reminder emails.......if you have changed your mind I dont care, just let me know!!!

Why do people do that.....??

Anyone explain?

Chris

Or...I put a list out, I immediately get an email saying 'have you got so and so' so I reply and say yes, then sit and wait for the person who asked to return the email to say he wants it, meanwhile 3 other people have asked for it and I have to say someone reserved it. Of course, he never gets back to me. Maybe I should put a disclaimer, "if you ask if a record is available you've f*cking bought it and I'm taking it off your card"

There seems to be so many records for sale at the moment it must be hard to make a decision on what to buy especially as the "net" is so instant. we used to have to wait for lists to drop on the mat or make telephone calls to search them out.

Ted

People even do it when ringing asking about the current soul nights I am putting on. They ask how much are the tickets, then they say can you put me 4 by or some other number, and give me their name, I never to hear from them again!

Cheers

Its just plain old bad manners...I have records sat on my shelf I could of sold 5 times over but some guy reserved it as soon as the list went out....now he is ignoring all of my mails, if you dont want it just tell me....you cant afford it/the missus has found out/the car broke down......I`m an understanding kinda guy....just let me know.....!! I dont care how many records i sell in a month, its not putting food on my table...but some other guy probably wanted that record.........

Pete, the other one is,"I`m checking availability on the following......."

So, do you want the records or not????

I know of a dealer who just takes people off his list if they piss him about.....as a service manager I always like to see things from the customers angle.......but I lose patience with records sometimes!

I agree, it's bad form to order a record and then renege on purchasing it - it's even worse when the person won't make a simple phone call or send an e-mail to the dealer to let him know that for whatever reason they can no longer meet their commitment to buy. It must be frustrating being a dealer.

On the other hand - I've had quite a few situations where I've ordered records from dealers, been told that they're on the way only to then find that they've mysteriously disappeared from their stock systems. Only to reappear a few weeks later with a heftier price tag.

The fact that a lot of these records were beginning to get played and were listed for less than you'd reasonably expect to pay for them was obviously unrelated.

I've also heard of another situation where an e-mail was sent, funds exchanged, the record was packed ready to go out, only for the dealer to accept a significantly higher offer for the record from someone else. The dealer was apologetic, but quite open about the fact that he'd had a better offer. A sort of "Sorry, but screw you" attitude.

So I guess it cuts both ways - I know it's ultimately the dealers decision to sell for whatever price they want, to whoever they want, but I know I for one wouldn't buy stuff from those particular dealers again.
