Gene-r Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) Wasn't "Time Won't Let Me", by J C Messina covered up as Bob Seeger & The Silver Bullet Band as well? Edited February 15, 2006 by Gene-R
Guest Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Wasn't "Time Won't Let Me", by J C Messina covered up as Bob Seeger & The Silver Bullet Band as well? Sorry Wiganer imvho it's a pile of the smelliest kind of **** possible. I should know I've had a copy since the mid 70s, bought it in Rupert Street market (London) Bloody Ian Clark, a damn fine salesman lol Possibly one of the worst records I've ever bought in the name of Northern, sorry mate, still to each their own, enjoy
Godzilla Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Wasn't "Time Won't Let Me", by J C Messina covered up as Bob Seeger & The Silver Bullet Band as well? Bob Segar System I think Gene Godz
Gene-r Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Bob Segar System I think Gene Godz Cheers Godz!
Paul R Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Awful 70's rock. Lots of energy but no soul. Surely '60s rock played at the time alongside the Mitch Ryders etc. Yeh, good dancer from way before Bob Seagar hit the big time. And IMHO certainly not the worst played in the name of Soul. Paul
Soulsmith Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 its starting to rock the floor when i spin it out... Your actually receiving a coded message, the record does not want to be resurrected.
Ted Massey Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Sorry Mark , the rest of the spot great but the floor was rocking to people leaving it in all directions
Billy Freemantle Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) I always liked this record. Whoever it was that mentioned it along with Mitch Ryder is dead right. When I first heard it in about 1971 it immediately reminded me of Breakout and other Mitch Ryder stuff. For the people who don't like it, all I have to say is :Don't you ever listen to the radio when the big phat beat comes on?" Edited February 15, 2006 by Billy Freemantle
Sebastian Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 "Heavy Music" is from 1967 and was Bob Seger's last Cameo 45. I like much of his material, but "Heavy Music" is no big fave of mine. "2+2=?" (Capitol), "East Side Story" (Cameo) and his first couple of Capitol LPs are much better in my opinion. Having said that... like Mitch Ryder, The Rationals and many other r&b influenced Detroit/Michigan rockers, I have never sorted my Bob Seger records in the "soul" section of my record collection. It's nice good-time-shout-bamalama rock'n'roll though.
Ted Massey Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Think "You get your kicks" is the best of the lot ,even when that Bob Seeger track was played loud it still sounded to poppy.suprising cause in the 70's he sounded quite soulful. having said that Marks spot was spot on for the first hour and that Peggy Scott track is fantastic
Winsford Soul Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 (edited) Wasn't "Time Won't Let Me", by J C Messina covered up as Bob Seeger & The Silver Bullet Band as well? Bob seger system, a Richard cover up i think. What a tune. Steve Edited February 15, 2006 by winsford soul
Guest in town Mikey Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Made me want to get a plackard and storm the Whitehouse for invading Vietnam. Defo not my cup of tea. Maybe some of the swirly hippies that used to frequent the downstairs of the mousetrap would like it. One of those records you can visit the bar to. IMHO

Pete S Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I've seen this record hanging around for 30 years now and I've never actually heard it until now. I thought it was great! Just the sort of stuff that would have been big in the really early 70's I reckon.
Billy Freemantle Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Just in case anyone wants a higher quality Mp3 of this great sound.Bob Seger Heavy Music.mp3

Have to say though that I dug it out last night to see if I'd been too harsh can certainly see the Mitch Ryder likeness, just doesn't do it for me. Cheers mate Dave
