How spooky is this, I was cleaning some duplicates tonight to sell, and accidently snapped a mint copy of Darrow Fletcher - The Pain, must have been a necessary sacrifice for the show tonight?!

I've had that version of Little Ann on tape for a few years now, exactly how many 'takes' of the track exist?

No good telling us half an hour before the show is it  If you'd told us a couple of days ago I could have asked my mum to tape it whilst I was in the pub ... but you didn't ... therefore I was in the pub and missed it

Listen to Ady's slot including that great Little Ann.

Having listened to Ady's spot and his answer to Craig's question "is everything OK at Ace" has anybody seen anything official about how much will be lost from there catalogue once the Fantasy roster moves to Universal in April?

How will it affect any compilations where the odd tracks from Fantasy/Galaxy/Stax/Prestige/Milestone...........are included.

I've just recieved the catalogue update for 2006 and there's not a mention of any deletions.

Maybe Ady could give us an answer. Not wanting to put you on the spot Ady but I'd like to pick up some of the CD's I need "before it's to late".

I'm sure cross compiled comps will be OK, I'll check on the 100% Fantasy ones but there'll be a sell off period on them anyway.

I have noticed that some of the CDs that are running low on stock aren't getting re-pressed unless they are still selling on strongly so some of the 5+ years old ones are deleted or close to it. Don't hang about there'll be very hard to find soon.

That's the copy I did for Andy Rix a few years ago. There are two different vocals and a few variations on those but the two that will be on Vol 3 (this one) and the original one on Vol 1 are the ones that matter.

Personally preferred the one that came out on the Kent 45 but even that wasn't as good as the version that was originally played, is that going to come out or wot?

Hello Ady , Gilly played me an instrumental of Little Ann at the time of discovering it at Dave Hamilton's , will that ever get released ? Best Wishes ,Eddie

Hi Eddie, we could do an instrumental for Vol 4 if the masses demand it.

Pete, pay attention, Searlings version was the same as on Vol 1, sometimes he slightly speeded it up sometimes he didn't. You may be confusing bad audio with alternate versions.

Obviously I'm not in much of a position to disagree but it doesn't sound like that one, in fact it isn't that one - the endings are different!

I've compared them several times and the only differences are that Searling's misses the first drum roll and fades earlier so technically the endings are different but there's less on the original acetate, not more.

There's no different take apart from the one on the new CD. Either compare them yourself again or send me a copy of the one you have. I'd love there to be more mystery to this one but I'd be very surprised indeed if there was.

No, the vocal is different at the end - definitely. I'll see if I can find it. Unless it's not double tracked like the one on the cd?

Ady this is Searlings copy, obviously it is running a little slow when you listen to it but it doesn't sound like the same take to me, maybe it is, but soon as I heard the one that came out on the 45 I thought it wasn't the one I knew...or something...

Ironically this is running slower than the Kent and Dave Hamilton version, hence Ann sounds a bit deeper.

It's exactly like I said a poor quality version shortened at the start and finish by editing, there's absolutely no difference in the mix or vocal version to the one we put out. Play five seconds of one then five seconds of the other all the way through and you'll see for yourself. Thanks for posting it.

What do you think of the true alternate version I played on the radio.

Yeah it was ok because it's a great song, but I didn't really like it compared to the other one, though I'm sure Hippo posted that version up on here a few months back so I had heard it - or one similar. Apologies if it wasn't Hippo!

Maybe I'm imagining it, but this alternate version of Little Ann seems to be much sweeter and more innocent, with less attitude than the other version. I'm probably totally wrong but this would be how a teenager would sing it without too much interferencee from producers. The backing singers are similarly sweet. All in all this is a less raunchy song.

This 'recording' is a bit mangled but I think what I'm saying comes across... unless I'm talking total boll*x of course!

I agree Billy, it's the one a commercial record label would want to go with. I personally prefer the original acetate and the previous Kent releases which are more emotional and soulful.

But this version is very nice. What else is on the CD?
