Guest Trevski Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 (edited) Just watched this copy go on ebay last night. £588. cheap for the Kings of Soul, but would you pay that for one that looked like this?? https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 Edited February 10, 2006 by Trevski
Guest rachel Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Hmmm... if I had the money, could see the record in person and play it to see what condition was really like... maybe... but off ebay, don't think so
Harrogatesoul Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 If your that desparate I suppose...... Not that keen on it meself. Still..... Rich
Guest Dan Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 joey dunlop's selling one from his black mountain eyrie @1500 at the moment.
pikeys dog Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Fact that he only has 10 feedback on mainly $5 records would set a few alarm bells ringing with me.
Keithw Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 had a listen to the sound bite on page its a crap version different mix keith what do people think
Guest rachel Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Fact that he only has 10 feedback on mainly $5 records would set a few alarm bells ringing with me. Yes that too, I should have added to the above, only if someone I trusted confirmed it was genuine as well, personally wouldn't have a clue in this case I couldn't get it to play.... Me neither.
Ted Massey Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 joey dunlop's selling one from his black mountain eyrie @1500 at the moment. Are the ones knocking about part of the Chris Anderton haul or are they turning up now
Chris Anderton Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 We had 9 copies for sale Ted, they are all gone apart from one which I have here, supposedly reserved for someone but I guess its still for sale if anyone wants it.Our copies came from someone involved with the record, although it took ages to seal the deal because he knew it was hard to find and wanted good money for them. There does seem to be a couple of copies around, I`m not sure if its become more in focus since Sam, Mick H etc started playing it and people have decided to cash in. I had`nt heard the record before we found our copies but of course I was aware of it...always used to find the single sided demos. If a few have come out of the woodwork I can assure you it is still a bloody hard record! As for not liking it, I must admit I was`nt over-keen when I first heard it but its a real grower and sounds much better load at a venue.........will be spinning it at Sheffield tonight. That copy looked well fucked did`nt it! Chris
Simon T Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I couldn't get it to play.... No me. Is this it?
Guest Trevski Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 No me. Is this it? Thats it, same as the one I have, but according to KeithW the version on ebay was different. Would be interested to compare.
Soulsmith Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 No me. Is this it? Cheers for posting, I really like it. Col.

Guest rachel Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Same record ..... but completely different version than one that's getting played out. Compare the two together ....... this one's absolute kak in comparison! Yeah, interesting version but nowhere near as good
Guest Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 No. I would not pay that amount of money at all. It's nondescript to me.

That copy looked well fucked did`nt it! Chris I didn't think anything to it when I heard it, but if Chris says it's a grower, then that would explain why it sems to be so highly rated. I must admit it did sound better loud when somebody played it at lifeline last Saturday. So I'd better reserve judgement on it until I've heard it a few more times. Phil.

So I'd better reserve judgement on it until I've heard it a few more times. That's because it was the other version that you heard played last weekend Phil ...... it's a 100 times better than this one!
Russ Vickers Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 had a listen to the sound bite on page its a crap version different mix keith what do people think I beleive its the demo done by the writer, sounds unfinished as you would expect & IMVHO compared with the released KOS finished take, this is poor, you would have trouble recognising it if it wasnt for the fact that we know what it is. Russ
Jumpinjoan Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 This is what it should look like!! The one on E Bay's got a different B side to this one but we'll just have to take their word for that eh .....
Peter Richer Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 It definitely grows on you. I've often found that great records sound much better after the third or fourth time of listening, probably because they are a bit more subtle or complex in the harmonies or musical arrangements. For example, I've found much of the Shrine output to be quite superb, after first thinking the tracks were just moderately good - Cautions (x2), Epsilons, Sidney Hall, Eddie Daye, Cairos all fall into this category for me. Anyway, I digress. The Kings of Soul is excellent, and the trick I've found is to not worry about the almost pathetic guitar solo but to concentrate on the underlying bass work which is fantastic!
Chalky Posted February 12, 2006 Posted February 12, 2006 I can't believe anyone would spend so much money on a record in this condition unless it was either to dj with or for the "I've got..." bragging rights. Personally wouldn't buy for either. I like to be able to see what I own as well as be able to listen
