Hmmm... if I had the money, could see the record in person and play it to see what condition was really like... maybe... but off ebay, don't think so shades.gif

Fact that he only has 10 feedback on mainly $5 records would set a few alarm bells ringing with me.

Yes that too, I should have added to the above, only if someone I trusted confirmed it was genuine as well, personally wouldn't have a clue in this case blush.gif

I couldn't get it to play....

Me neither.

We had 9 copies for sale Ted, they are all gone apart from one which I have here, supposedly reserved for someone but I guess its still for sale if anyone wants it.Our copies came from someone involved with the record, although it took ages to seal the deal because he knew it was hard to find and wanted good money for them.

There does seem to be a couple of copies around, I`m not sure if its become more in focus since Sam, Mick H etc started playing it and people have decided to cash in. I had`nt heard the record before we found our copies but of course I was aware of it...always used to find the single sided demos. If a few have come out of the woodwork I can assure you it is still a bloody hard record!

As for not liking it, I must admit I was`nt over-keen when I first heard it but its a real grower and sounds much better load at a venue.........will be spinning it at Sheffield tonight.

That copy looked well fucked did`nt it!

I didn't think anything to it when I heard it, but if Chris says it's a grower, then that would explain why it sems to be so highly rated. I must admit it did sound better loud when somebody played it at lifeline last Saturday. So I'd better reserve judgement on it until I've heard it a few more times.

had a listen to the sound bite on page

its a crap version

different mix

keith

what do people think

I beleive its the demo done by the writer, sounds unfinished as you would expect & IMVHO compared with the released KOS finished take, this is poor, you would have trouble recognising it if it wasnt for the fact that we know what it is.

It definitely grows on you. I've often found that great records sound much better after the third or fourth time of listening, probably because they are a bit more subtle or complex in the harmonies or musical arrangements. For example, I've found much of the Shrine output to be quite superb, after first thinking the tracks were just moderately good - Cautions (x2), Epsilons, Sidney Hall, Eddie Daye, Cairos all fall into this category for me.

Anyway, I digress. The Kings of Soul is excellent, and the trick I've found is to not worry about the almost pathetic guitar solo but to concentrate on the underlying bass work which is fantastic!
