Winsford Soul Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Can anyone shed some light on these tracks. I know the Gene McDaniels version of clip one but not this one. Track two seems like a possible race issue of the time. Track 4, unissued version? having probs with track 3, will be online later, host site having difficulties 1. Guest biggray1 Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 no mate, its a diff version, your bob on though, the Ohio players did an LP version col Colin I have The Ohio Players 45 on Commpas, wich is a female singer, and the Lp version is a male vocal.. I think the 45 female vocalist is Towanda Barnes!!
Larsc Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 wasn't that the tune that was booted on a 45 recently as towanda barnes ?

I think the 45 female vocalist is Towanda Barnes!! LOL, now I am confused Col wasn't that the tune that was booted on a 45 recently as towanda barnes ? I dont know mate, would not suprise me, I have not heard it, this is an acetate I bought in the late 1980's at a niter and is just a dub presumably Col

Guest Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 Cheers mate, I have seen it. The acetate has "Herman Hitson" scrawled on it. Its sounds more like Herman than Towanda. I guess Towanda would not sing "lonely lonely man am I" unless she has recently visited a gender assignement clinic lol
Simon T Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 4. I think is Herman Hitson's unreleased version. Can't hear 2 & 3, but guessing 3 might be First Time by the Embers on JCP?

I have just registered with the site again Simon, so I can host clips, may take a day or so for paypal payment to work its way through. Could be the Embers on reflection, starts of with heavy horns then mellows out

Richard Searling played it off an acetate at Clifton Hall/Stafford and certainly Wigan Edited February 9, 2006 by SteveM
Alan T Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 The acetate with Hermon Hitson on it is supposedly Nate Adams who recorded on Atlantic. He and Sam Williams both had records produced by Johnny Brantley. Tomo
