hi all

just heard on the local news, they are gonna pull the winter gardens down..... too many of my memories are in there for them to do that......

this is in aid of yet more progress... I love it there... met and many friends over the years there, from the pier and the gardens... some of whom are no longer with us, cant let em pull it down....

Never,somethings you thought would never change,winter gardens was one of em`,if this place was in westminster,central london............no-way,last time i went,same manager,same inside,great nighters there,when steve croft was doing it,i didnt miss many either if any?..............maybe they might have one final nighter......................very sad,another car park with other two great car parks,and i used to dance on em` all........ RIP Winter gardens;Clifton hall;Wigan casino................ ^_^

planned for next year Ken... a bleeding cinema and luxary flats.... local businessman has come up with the concept to bring it up to date.... the fcking tw**

100 yards up the road is all waste ground,why cant the fukcers use that?,lets hope they dont buy the weekender,and it keeps n/soul in cleethorpes for a few years yet............

I know that Steve Woomble has an all dayer there on Good Friday... i am absolutely bloody gutted about the plans for the winter gardens... I knew it was in the pipeline to change it, rumor had it that they were just going to adapt it, mainly upstairs to these flats and leave the ball room intact, but obviously more money in making it a cinema now, I have found a link that tells you about it but dont know how to post it up on here.

Never liked dayers there,they dont work.............and spoil my nighter memories,plus i can never get bakc home

dayers, nighters Ken the place has it for me... too much of history there for me to end up as someones en suite double garage residence crap

I am affarid that this is true, But its not goning to happen just yet the Winter Gardens are not taking any bookings from next year. This has been going on for the last 3 years now, and it has been passed by the local planing commitie, Going against strong opperstion from local residents. The plans are susposed to hold a dance hall within the new complex, But ime sure thats just a ploy and will be droped when they get the full go ahead,

It will be a said loss to all in the Northern Soul Scene The Cleethorpes all dayers ran for years, much longer then the nighters at the Pier, The place will allways be close to my heart and somany of my first time experances were there,

Its not only Famous in northern soul circles, The Bags Ball On a Wendsday night in Infamous around the country, Also many of the top rock band played there before they made it, T Rex, Queen, Spring instaly to mind.

yes but part of it for me,is going out side to relieve my dancing feet,you cant beat the early morning,nobody around,the strolle to the station............not loads loads of taxi`s and piss heads...

Thanks for posting up the link Miff, have left comment on there, lets hope others that use SS add comment too, might make them (council) take more notice.

Looks like the Windmill (Tivoli) at Rotherham may also be a gonna go, because it looks like the Millers are out of business by March, so the club will deffo come down.

Yes mate I do, Deffo looks like the count down down has Started, What pissis me of is that so much of cleethorpes needs to be redevoled The other end from the gardens is a S**t Hole and there wasteland all over, there is No need to redevelop this site

they should build it were that old overgrown golf driving range is near the miniture train station is.

This was always my favourite venue, great nighters in the 70's, the all dayers after the nighters closed were fantastic, saturday at Wigan, shower and change at Birch services then off to Cleggy, can you imaging queuing to get in a dayer at mid day these days ? Bub doing the last spot and everyone went home happy after a memorable weekend. Some of the sounds broken by Poke, Sam and Manship in those days, wow !! It was a great pleasure to be a regular dj there at the early 80's nighters along with Steve Mannion and Shaun Hampsey etc, where so many new sounds were broken. Without a doubt a venue that pushed the scene forwards. Everyone invloved past and present should be proud of what was achieved there.

just posted on the grimsby telegraph my opinion...

Thoroughly enjoyed our regular trips from Pboro in the early 80's. Never forget talking to a bloke about something outside and then all of a sudden he bashed ten bells of shit out of a BMW that entered the car park with a baseball bat or similar implement. Had his full of demolishing the car (with the driver inside) and smoothly carried on finishing the deal with us on completion.

Had some fantastic time's at " Cleethorpe's Winter Garden's" Will alway's have great memorie's. Very sad to read of their intention's to demolish and build the, (usual) block of flat's!!

Have put my comment's on link in previous post, not sure what effect it will have, if their mind's are made up, then money will speak louder than people. Sad but true.

Its not as good as it sounds, They mean it will reopen as a venue somewhere in cleethorpes
