love this song but which is the best version? Each one has their merits but I have to give my vote to the Roy Hamilton version. What do you think?

The 3 versions listed are all great imo, but have gone for Dionne's for sentimental reasons. A particular moment in my life when it came out. When I hear it I still get tears in my eyes. Sentimental old fool.

How many other versions of this great song are there? I can think of Willie Tee, Nancy Wilson, but I know there are others. Help please.

When you go through a day

And the things that people say

They make you feel so small

They make you feel that

Your heart will just never stop aching

And when you just can't accept the abuse you are taking

Darlin' reach out for me

Don't you worry, I'll see you through

You just have to reach out for me

I'll be there and I'll comfort you

Oh yes, I will

Comfort you and love you

Oh how I'm gonna love you

When good friends prove untrue

And the things they do to you

They make you feel so bad

They make you feel that

You haven't a reason for living

So when you feel you

Could throw in the towel and just give in

Darlin' reach out for me

Don't you worry, I'll see you through

You just have to reach out for me

I'll be there and I'll comfort you

Oh yes, I will

Comfort you and love you

Oh how I'm gonna love you

All good but Roy Hamilton for me ... the passion in his voice always makes me cry

Yep Roy all the way.

That crescendo ending "tell me tell me tell me". Great record, great version.

Kathy Kirby did a good version on UK Decca.

Dave.

Without a doubt - for me it's Roy. We walked down the aisle to it last October for our 10th Wed Anniversary blessing. Superb!!!

Dionne great but Lou just scrapes past Roy for me, wonderful emotive record has Bacharach/David class all over it

Lenny

There are other soul versions by Universal Mind, Jerry Butler, Michael Henderson, Nancy Wilson and Lynn Collins.

...and numerous pop versions (which I haven't heard) including Olivia Newton-John. Ask Pete Smith about that one.
