Guest junior964 Posted December 6, 2012 Posted December 6, 2012 Hello, I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA USA...I just wanted to inform you that while you are looking for this record. Be aware that the black and white labels are in fact boots. These records where released in Pittsburgh in the mid 70's. I see on eBay all the time paying large amounts of money for these boots. They never released this record with a white label. The released them with "promotional copy" on the colored label. Just giving you a heads up. Regards Junior
Dimples Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 White demos have a Delta number and are stamped on dead wax so they seem to be legit. On the other hand why would have they been bootleged in the mid 70s if there wasn't interest at all by then in this kind of music??
kev Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Only because it is a white label doesn't mean it is a demo.I have a white copy nowhere on it does it say Demo

Guest gordon russell Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 thought delta numbers were west coast L.A......ain,t S.P.Q.R east coast????? odd!!
Pete S Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 (edited) thought delta numbers were west coast L.A......ain,t S.P.Q.R east coast????? odd!! That orange SPQR looks like it was pressed by London at Monarch, I think most London & related's are styrene and would have been pressed there. Then again, without seeing the run off, could have been pressed at Columbia. Actually just ignore this - it's definitely not a local issue though. Edited December 10, 2012 by Pete S
Guest t.o.t.s.s.c Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Had a few of these and the coloured label is a vinyl demo and the white issue is styrene.
Pete S Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 Had a few of these and the coloured label is a vinyl demo and the white issue is styrene. So it is. I don't get it!
Mr Outsider Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 The coloured label one's I've seen are styrene too. The white looks legit enough to me, but there are tons of Pittsburgh boots / re's out there.
Md Records Posted December 11, 2012 Posted December 11, 2012 Although Pittsburgh didn't have the same live music scene to the same extent that Cities like Detroit, Philly, Chicago had, it had a MASSIVE record based dance scene, thanks to the likes of D.J.'s like Mad Mike, Porky Chadwick etc and tunes like Baby Earl were big local sounds along with Harvey, Manny Corchado, Leo Price, Tommy Neal, Delcos, Annabelle Caesar and many, many others.I've had quite a few copies of this tune out of the 'burgh, but it doesn't look and feel like a pressing, like the Harvey, Annabelle Caesar (Red vinyl) and Mosquitos (Manny Corchado). I do suspect however that the Tommy Neal on the Purple label is a Pittsburgh variant, as I 've had a few of those from the town. Pittsburgh is known as the "45 capital of the U.S.A." Des Parker 1
Guest jimmysoulful Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 (edited) so if understood correctly https://www.ebay.com/itm/Baby-Earl-The-Trini-Dads-Back-Slop-Do-The-Ska-Northern-Soul-Mod-45-/290829272125?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item43b6c6843d#shId is this one a boot? ATB Edited December 13, 2012 by jimmysoulful
michael-j Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 there are other SPQR releases with the same plain white label, e.g. https://www.ebay.com/itm/JIMMY-SOUL-IF-YOU-WANNA-BE-HAPPY-7-SPQR-RECORDS-london-45-/321038807517?pt=Music_on_Vinyl&hash=item4abf6771dd
Pete S Posted December 14, 2012 Posted December 14, 2012 the white issue like many other spqr issues is not a demo - it was pressed at monarch delta 53023 which makes it a early 60s original press 2
pikeys dog Posted December 15, 2012 Posted December 15, 2012 I've had a white label issue in the past and there was nothing about it that screamed 'bootleg' - seems like a case of twitchy rsouls on the word of one poster. 1
