Prophonics 2029 Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 They told me of an office move that got them behind for 3 weeks on payments in Oct Nov.

Dave Thorley Posted November 23, 2012 Author Posted November 23, 2012 Funny how these rumors spread. It seems it comes from a discussion on Discogs (A rival). But in reality, all my payments have come through fine. They did have an office move, which seems to slowed down a few payments. But don't think their in real trouble. See a part of the Discogs thread below................ Hot on the heels of Netsounds being snapped up by Musicstack, is the GEMM marketplace in trouble? A couple of threads in the Musicstack seller lounge where some (though not all) sellers who use GEMM as well as Musicstack have been concerned about the delays in receiving payments from GEMM for sales and lack of communication and transparency regarding why the payments are late. Note that GEMM, unlike Discogs and Musicstack, handles the payments for transactions between buyers and sellers; so if you're selling on GEMM, you receive the proceeds from your sales on GEMM from GEMM itself, minus their commission. Any sellers here on Discogs also sell on GEMM and have experienced the same problem? Whilst the more online marketplaces there are for selling music, the better, as a dominant position by any one marketplace will most likely tempt them to leverage that dominance by charging a higher commission than their competitors but GEMM have singularly failed to innovate or build on their first-mover advantage. I used them (as a buyer) about the time that I started using eBay back in 2002 but apparently they've been around since 1994. In the time since I first used them, the website's appearance and functionality has barely changed so if they are in trouble, then it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. I remember receiving a newsletter around 18 months ago that had an almost pleading tone, trying to entice the recipients back to the site; am guessing that was sent due to a consistent decline in web traffic.

Northern Soul Uk Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 It wouldn't suprise me to be honest. I think that 'Music Stack' have more of a monopoly now after the takeover of 'Netsounds'. 1
Nickinstoke Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 Just to revive this thread, I've heard from Gemm that they're currently running 6 to 8 weeks behind with payments. Anyone know anything about this?
Mick Holdsworth Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Just to revive this thread, I've heard from Gemm that they're currently running 6 to 8 weeks behind with payments. Anyone know anything about this? That's about right - Initially they would pay 3 or 4 days after the first email. Around September last year, they were about 2 to 3 weeks behind due to (they said) relocating their base, and in recent months that has now been extended to 6 or 8 weeks, as you pointed out. I learned of this last year through Musicstack forums, couldn't get anything from Gemm directly. At present I think they only owe me two payments (possibly only one) as I tend now to use Gemmpay to buy stuff so I can use the money straight away from my account. It is rare that I let the cash be allocated to me, and If I do it is by accident. Although they gave a reason for the initial delay, I have no idea why there is still a delay, a delay that has more than doubled in timescale - must take a long time to move a handful of PC's / servers. Cheers Mick
Larsc Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 use Gemmpay to buy stuff so I can use the money straight away from my account Although they gave a reason for the initial delay, I have no idea why there is still a delay, a delay that has more than doubled in timescale - must take a long time to move a handful of PC's / servers. Gemmpay is nice, I used to always spend all my record sales money that way. (Now I use discogs and spend all my record sales money through paypal. Things only seem to change.) Depending on how many employees they have, the increased delay could escalate if they fell behind and have trouble catching up. Not a good situation any which way, and they should do something about it before they loose all their customers (sellers).
Prophonics 2029 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Is it just me or are payments taking 5 or 6 months still from this place to arrive.
Sutty Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 people don't use gemm, they use discogs as thats where a google search takes them. I stopped selling there years ago, i got 2/3 times the price on discogs quite quickly for records i'd had on gemm for 2 years unsold. They've seriously lagged behind other portals and are a fool to themselves if they expect to survive. IMHO. cheers Sutty 1
Prophonics 2029 Posted September 24, 2014 Posted September 24, 2014 Doesn't help that they still ow me since May...must say I can now get direct payments through the site so no waiting.
Dave Pinch Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 used to use gemm ..now buy thru discogs with the odd musicstack purchase thrown in
Soulboyrecords Posted October 4, 2014 Posted October 4, 2014 I just got first 2 payments direct via PPay from GEMM. If you shout at them they will make it the default payment method - but not unless you shout
