JOE TORQUAY Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Jimmy Delphs Dancing A Hole On The World Vocal / Instrumental Let’s get serious! Whilst us mere mortals were crowing over owning The Esquires version of this Tony Hestor composition; The Crowned Prince Of The Casino Richard Searling was spinning the infinitely rarer original take by Jimmy Delphs. Yes we were all upstaged yet again, as he dropped this beauty into sets that included Cecil Washington, Moses Dillard and the like elevating RS to by far and away the greatest Northern Soul DJ of his generation. Today this 45 is still held in huge regard not only because of it’s extreme rarity but also because, when Ollie McLaughlin & Mike Terry get to work on a Tony Hester creation, no other version was ever going to surpass it. A NORTHERN SOUL TROPHY sounding every note as good as it did back in the days of Sir Dickie Searling in his unassailable position as No. 1. This copy has some light surface brush but plays loud-clean and clear - check out the soundfile lifted directly off this disc. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 879.00 Stevie Wonder Stevie Wonder 5 in the 1965 series of UK Tamla Motown EP’s and one of the most difficult in the run to acquire. So very seldom comes to market with our 15 year old sales-data telling us this is only our 2nd copy this century. Track listing covers: 1. Fingertips 2. Happy Street 3. Hey Harmonica Man 4. Square Neat clean vinyl both sides only revealing very light blemishes, both labels are perfect, the cover is free of writing, splits or tears both back and front cover. Only a few light crease (please check front cover scan) back cover has some age “browning” but otherwise clean. This is a tough one to snare - do not pass by. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 140.00 Patti Austin Leave A Little Love Whilst seeking those Northern Soul gems released in different countries, few if any carry more NS Kudos than this 1966 4 track French EP showcasing 4 of Patti’s finest Northern Soul offerings.Leave A Little LoveMy Lovelight Ain’t Gonna Shine No MoreTake Your TimeTake Away The Pain Stain Not only wine, food & chat up lines, the French also produced the very finest 7” EP’s on Planet Earth. This example being the ultimate to own, as far as Northern Soul enthusiasts are concerned. Every track is a winner and who casn resists that rare artist picture cover of a beaming 16 year old Patti embarking on what was to become a sparkling career. rare in the extreme - condition could hardly be finer! Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 191.00 Richard Flowers I Don't Believe You Love Me C/w Do It Very rare 1973 Los Angeles Soulful dancer from the genius behind the “Flowers” recordings “For Real” “We Can Make It Happen” etc. This one carries the same ease of production that provides the dancer with a spectacular stroller to reckon with. Slightly jazzy arrangement is fused by a combination of horns, keyboards and fleeting guitar work. Mr. Flowers convincing vocal welds the sessions into a play again and again ear-worm. Infectious stuff.. Backed with a harder edged FUNK tune using the same instruments for a totally different effect. Strong mid-paced punchy L.A. funk dancer with some killer horn breaks.. Two great sides one hard-to-get disc.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 211.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Home Of The Blues Home Of The Blues #9 By April 1967 issue # 9 Home of the Blues transform itself into a 32 page insight in British Soul Scene and the new offerings from the USA. With an upgrade in paper this iconic monthly was now a substantial magazine. This issue has the Spotlight ON - James Carr. With The Four Tops, Inez & Charlie Foxx, Chuck Berry, Gene Chandler* + discography also under review= with artist pics. News includes Darrell Banks moves to Atco, Yvonne Baker signs a solo deal with Cameo Parkway. Includes some eye-catching Record Label adverts from EMI Soul Supply series, SUE, Ember etc. plus the 1966 Poll Results for your Soul faves. All in all, this I think is my favourite “HOME OF THE BLUES” issue. Fine condition, a light age-tinge to the right hand side edges of the pages. No alarming creases, not tears - original owner adds authenticity as he “stars” the Fascination - Girls Are Out To Get You” - Stateside 594 release - presumably as a reminder to order.. This issue # 9 just shimmers with provenance.. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 55.00 Freddy Butler With A Dab Of Soul “With a DAB Of Soul” is perhaps the biggest understatement every to sit on an album sleeve! Primitive horns add to the atmosphere as Robert Tanner begs and pleads for a lady’s name. The whole session unfolds into a poor-man’s persuasive talk trying to win his chosen girl..AWESOME! Flip it over and we are treated to a Robert Tanner composition saturated in despair. Real-emotion spews out on every note, as he attempts to put on a smiling face, hiding just how he feels inside. JOE TORQUAY Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Del Marino Cupid's Arrow C/w I'll Never Be The Same New York stands-alone as the haven for 60’s Beat Ballads. The city seems to offer and endless supply of those emotive Big City Productions. This style of Soul has always held a special place in the hearts of British Rare Soul fans - ever since Jimmy Radcliffe ended the nights at The Twisted Wheel. Before you today is yet another fine example of the much-loved genre of BEAT BALLAD HEAVEN; a 1961 Carl Spencer composition boomed out by the under-recorded balladeer Del Marino. A strong string intro, is bolstered by heavenly girl chorus as Del’s creamy vocal struts into the arrangement, impressing with an effortless smooth-as-silk performance. Rarity is extreme, as the East Coast “Island” scene, Belgium’s “Popcorn” scene and of course the growing army of Beat-Ballad-Heads on the Northern Soul scene are all chasing this truly fabulous tune. This 51 year old platter has utterly immaculate vinyl, small marker squiggle on the label - otherwise perfect in every respect. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 84.00 Little Hank Mister Bang Bang Man Yes the legendary 1966 STOCK copy! A Twisted Wheel anthem that sits at the very core of Northern Soul folklore. Allegedly withdrawn after a week of being issued, to surface on the newly formed UK Monument. Personally I don’t hold with that inaccurate assumption as London where still releasing Monument 45s in 1968. And the UK Monument 1045 release of this title was issued in 1970. So those sums don’t add up.. What I can tell you with absolute certainly this STOCK copy was deleted very early after release and is significantly rarer than the DEMO press Legendary STOCK copy in flawless condition…yes British vinyl-dreams are made of stuff like this… Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 139.00 Lee Andrews & The Hearts I've Had It C/w Little Bird There are a few Northern Soul classics who’s intro is so unique, you can remember exactly, when and where you first heard it played. Edddie Foster’s - I Never Knew, Linda Jones - Just Can’t Live My Life, Present - Many’s The slip etc. have such standout intro they have the power to swell a dancefloor. Ian Levine @ The Blackpool Mecca circa 1973 was the first time that piano entered my ears and the crazed sax break stuck in my brain. It was then and is still, an all time favourite of mine - it just has that “je ne sais quoi” that keeps it firmly rooted in my memory. Awesome Northern Soul and this example is in awesome condition - a magnificent MINT minus throughout. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 162.00 Bobbi Lynn Jump Back In The Arms Of Love The Northern Soul rare STOCK copy collector will be please to gaze upon this thing of beauty. Although the the White promo copy is not seriously rare, it was counterfeited and you often see the “fake” promo’s being sold as originals. So the ideal thing is to play safe, and try to buy the STOCKER. Now wouldn’t that be the way to go, if it wasn’t for the fact that this “Orange” vision is just ridiculously elusive. This copy is flawless and still sitting in it’s “birth” sleeve, so view, then listen to “The Earthquake” lady belt out another Charles McCoy & Mac Gayden NS dance creation. Fabulous Sister-Northern Soul in just a dazzling rare format. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 59.00
JOE TORQUAY Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Jimmy James & The Vagabonds Come To Me Softly This Jimmy James composition is currently becoming very popular as several DJ’s are currently featuring this in their sets. So we thought instead of the 1968 USA Atco 6551 release how about impressing the crowd with this 1967 British DEMO! Vinyl is super-nice label is clean and free of flaws expect for a slight tinge of age-browning to the white. Right in vogue and right on the money for an instant dancefloor reaction. Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 84.00
Jordirip Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Cheap for Infinity. Damn! Thought exactly the same. Someone got a bargain there....and it wasn't me.
John Reed Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 (edited) Cheap for Infinity. Damn! Definitely when you consider someone paid over $400 for it on eBay (from John Anderson) less than a month ago Edited November 22, 2012 by John Reed
