Guest Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Hi guys and girls, I am trying to search for a decent compilation or two of Northern Soul tracks. I'm fairly new to the scene (not being old enough to actually attend any of the original nights) so I am not really sure which tracks to look for and which labels to trust. I did buy a Pegasus 3 CD set but only found out after the purchase that although original band members were used all of the tracks have the same sequenced drum loops. So I am looking for original versions of tracks, and not just the main hits, I'd like to check out some of the more obscure cuts to. I found these on Amazon, any ideas if any of these are any good.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search...5494893-4723834 I hope this post does not break any rules as it is not strictly vinyl related but it does seem like the most appropriate sub forum. Many thanks in advance. Rob.

Hi Rob One of the best labels to buy regarding quality Northern and related compilation CDs is Ace / Kent https://www.acerecords.co.uk/content.php?page_id=61&label=952 they have some of the best available regards Paul
Stuart Bower Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 (edited) If you want to know what rare soul is (imo) and you`re only interested in cd`s try these: FOR MILLIONAIRES ONLY VOL. 1,2,3,4 (GOLDMINE) and also as was said earlier..the CD`s by ACE/KENT records are also quite excellent. But I hardly use `em myself---I`m a vinyl man!!!! Edited January 26, 2006 by The Soul Intention
Guest Coxy Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Hi Rob, your best bet is to go to this site:www.boo-ga-loo.demon.co.uk They`ve got loads of cd`s, they`re cheap and they have the track lists too. Trev
Daved Posted January 26, 2006 Posted January 26, 2006 Yep, Boogaloo records is excellent. I'd recommend stuff on Kent, earlier Goldmine, Grapevine and Joe Boy. There's loads of excellent CD compos catering for a wide range of tastes.
