Guest Brooky Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Quite a few popular tunes where the instrumental is better IMHO...........Exus Trek as an example..... Big one for me though.....the Kaddo Strings on Impact kicks Duke Browner vocal into a cocked hat I think....as does the Tan Soul version of Hey America.......... Sorry if it's been done before........ 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) Yeah I agree some instro' are better than the vocal versions. One of my faves is 'Milton Wright - The Gallop' Actually I'm not sure which came first the instro' or the vocal version?, I have a feeling that the vocal was put on after? Anyone? DerekG Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Tempos - Sad sad memories - on flip to Countdown (if you're lucky enough to get one that actually plays the track) Released on Soultown as a vocal/Instrumental - check out the instrumental
grant Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Patrick Bradley - Just One More Chance, beats the awful vocal hands down!
The Tempest Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Patrick Bradley - Just One More Chance, beats the awful vocal hands down! Good call 1
Guest CARL D Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Totally agree Chas! Instrumental of Try a little harder much more enjoyable-one of my faves! Carl. Keymen strings, inst flip of the Fidels."strings and things"making up for the lack of a vocal.Beautiful track.
Guest CARL D Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 Released in uk on djm(djs 10689). Should be relatively cheap(bout a tenner)? Sjclement Posted November 18, 2012 Posted November 18, 2012 loved some of those Modern Instrumentals credited to Arthur Wright Orchestra and appeared on the b of some of the reissues Mary Love, Vernon Garrett and my particular favourite Before Its Too Late. Gotta love the Music Box Wee oo 'ill let it be you coz both vocals are sh*t.
Prophonics 2029 Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 A vert very hard vocal to better. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oivQunzBEf0
Popular Post Pete S Posted November 19, 2012 Popular Post Posted November 19, 2012 I love most of these and agree with most of them being better than the vocals but the instrumental of Try A Little Harder better than the vocal, do me a favour, it's very week compared to those other scorching Mirwood insts and the vocal is just brilliant. 4
Tezza Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 One step too far with this one me thinks. "As Long As You Love Me" undoubtedly superior. Also, got to agree with Pete - The Fidels - Try A Little Harder !!! I think we all need to try a little harder if we are gonna site these as inferior to the Instrumentals. !! 1

I personally can't choose between Sidras Theme vocal and instrumental, when I hear the one I want to hear the other, and vice versa, maybe someone should do an extended mix! 1
Guest ruffsounds Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 What about the Castle's Royal Band--The Little Floridy the instro to Claude & Hank Carbo's Fox In a Miniskirt, a great instrumental that you dont hear out nowadays.

TOAD Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 What about the Castle's Royal Band--The Little Floridy the instro to Claude & Hank Carbo's Fox In a Miniskirt, a great instrumental that you dont hear out nowadays. inst was played at stafford and not many people realise theres a vocal
Md Records Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Wasn't Little Floridy played as "Herb Ward - Theme From The Forgotten Man" or something similar - you have to Love Guy's imagination, when it comes to "cover ups". Talking of Stafford, does anybody prefer the vocal by David Walker (I think) to:- Paradox - Ring The Changes - Polydor Des Parker Edited November 19, 2012 by SOUL.INC
Sjclement Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 That guy Arthur Wright name turns up on a few of these tracks, Any in-depth info on him? BTW 'What about the instrumental' the title of this thread any allusions to that ultra rare Billy Harner 45 on Karma Sutra? I'll get me coat

Guest Brooky Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) Peter Hamilton Generation (Hey Girl)....be surprised if there's an argument over that one!!! Must agree over the Fi-Dels too - vocal is better....but still great that there is an instrumental version though...especially when I didn't know...but do now. Edited November 19, 2012 by Brooky

Northern Soul Uk Posted November 19, 2012 Posted November 19, 2012 Like both 'Sidras theme' and the Vocal as much as each other. 'The Gallop' one of the many of my all time faves, just has an immense atmosphere to it, always on repeat in the car.
Briles Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 (edited) Heard the Lou Pride inst the other month, can't for the life of me remember who it was by, and certainly not sayin it is better than the vocal, but interesting none the less. Can anyone post a link up ? Edited November 20, 2012 by Briles
Shinehead Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Festival Time , great instrumental the vocal by Laura Lee sounds as though it does not match the music.
Pete S Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Festival Time , great instrumental the vocal by Laura Lee sounds as though it does not match the music. Have to agree with you, been saying this ever since I heard it, sounds like they wrote the song to fit the music way after the instrumental had been finished, like one of the first tailor mades!
Shinehead Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 I think that Detroit Sound thingy had more effort put into it than the Laura Lee after thought .
