Simple question: What is the most soulful record, in your opinion, to have made the UK pop charts? I know a lot of people rate Dorothy Moore's Misty Blue as being one of the few deep soul records to gave crossed over. I've always found it too country for my taste. Can I suggest Al Green's monster, Lets Stay Together? It's hard to come to this track with fresh ears, since we've all heard it a trillion times, but surely there has never been a more soulful song and performance to grace the UK top 40? Colin

I would dance to my choices: Curtis Mayfield ,Harold Melvin and Stevie Wonder and maybe The Commodores- The Zoo(The Human Zoo) Wasn't really thinking of danceability - just soul content. But, Move On Up must be one of the most soulful records to grace the charts.

Colin Well there have to be a few but I would plump for three: Al Greens "Lets Stay Together" because it was played at my wedding as our song and it proved prophetic. Still happily married. The Four Tops version of "Its All In The Game". A totally soulful version of a standard that I never cared for. They made it their own. Any track from the O'Jay's "Ship Ahoy" album - did they all chart? The title track still has the power to move me after so many years. Finally, I cannot understand why people think Diana (d)Ross is soulful, but thats life. Different strokes eh?
