I was thinking...

I have got at least a CD's worth of these extremely questionable boderline northern soul sounds in my collection. Things that might have killer northern style arrangements with dreadful vocals, hybrid sounding stuff with only a hint of the right beat, etc.

I'm planning on dedicating my next CD comp to these oddball sounds. I'm calling it "The Northern Soul Netherworld". I just read in the "unknowns" post about a few such songs like the country sounding thing and some girl group stuff or whatever...Obviously, I'm not the only one hanging on to stuff like this.

Let's discuss a few of these extremely questionable numbers that for which we have a soft spot but wouldn't dare attempt to play out anywhere. But in our record rooms and our twisted minds, these songs might fly with us, even though better judgement tells us most people would never buy it. Also, let's discuss those odd sounds that have made their way in like Dolly Parton or Al Martino.

I'll start it off:

1. Doin' the Arthur-The Four Directions-Coral

2. Pochahantas-Camelots-Ember

3. Eyes-Earls

4. Bubblegummer-Teardrops-Saxony

5. Line and Track-Aquamen-Hirich/Hiback

6. Sweet Hunk of Misery-Sue Thompson

7. Something Special On Your Mind-Wild Cherry-WCII

I've pretty much just started compiling my CD right here. I'm not organizing another swap because I got hosed on here before-sent 20 CDs out and got 7 in return. If people want to swap they can just contact me and I'll just swap one on one.

This could be a really fun and/or nauseating CD swap or at least an entertaining thread.

Sandra and Andres - Give It Up - UK Phillips. Pure pop, awful record, Dutch or Belgian bubblegum from around 1970. But there's just something about the arrangement that vaguely hints at Northern.

God, I'll admit it then, I actually like it. Be amazed if anyone else even knows it though.

CHECK OUT THE RECENT SOUL FEVER CD COMPILATIONS (4), CHRIST THERE ARE SOME REAL CANDIDATES FOR WHAT YOU NEED.

SOME GOOD STUFF ALSO BUT LESS THAN 50%. AT A FIVER EACH FROM FINBARR (FOLKSTONE) I SUPPOSE I CANT COMPLAIN TOO MUCH.
