KTF Jas Too be fair he does state that the "Al McCarther is not an Original, and as for the "Vanguards" 45 whats the point of booting a £5/10 record?, not saying that it`s not a boot,i can`t find my copy on "Whiz" at the moment to compare. jazzyjas Posted January 21, 2006 Author Posted January 21, 2006 Didn't read the description. I should have before I pointed the finger, but I can definitely verify that the Vanguards is a boot. I have a guaranteed original of that record and it actually goes for a bit of money. It's an in-demand record for soul harmony collectors. Thanks for clearing up the Al MCarther thing though. I just can't imagine anyone wanting to pay that much money for a bootleg. KTF Jas

KTF Jas they should come over here for the Vanguards Jazzy as it's very cheap, lots of copies about and can't imagine why anyone would want to charge lots of money for it.
Guest Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Certain i have the Vanguards, but i think i have the "Somebody Please" flip as my plug side. Like Chalky says Jazzy it's a cheapie, and i'm not certain the one on e-bay is a boot, may be just a variation on the italics, as seems to happen with a lot of records due to old pressing plant practices. Ady Croasdell Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 How's the Al McArthur a boot, I got mine from Ted about ten years ago and it looks the same, why would anyone have booted it 10 years ago, it was pretty unknown except in Belgium. In fact I think mine was the same as an original I had had for years and sold just prior to getting the second copy.
Larsc Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 The Vanguards on Whiz usually look like this: https://cgi.ebay.com/THE-VANGUARDS-SOMEBODY...1QQcmdZViewItem If it's been booted it will have been done for the U.S. market, but I can't see why. It usually sells for $10-$15 on ebay.
Harrogatesoul Posted January 21, 2006 Posted January 21, 2006 Flip of said disc ' Somebody Please ' is the side for me . Nice slow pleader... £20 on JM but agree with LarsC can be picked up regulary for a lot less on ebay. Recommended 45 IMO. Regards Rich

I assume those pesky Belgians must have had it re-pressed then, just like Sam Fletcher in the 70s.
Pete S Posted January 22, 2006 Posted January 22, 2006 There's actually someone from Belgium selling the same record on ebay at the moment, apologies for not keeping the link but he has a perfect scan up there if it's any help

Dave f........... Are you sure the Vanguards is not a genuine second issue ? As you know -there is a big difference. As you say-why counterfeit a relatively inexpensive obscure record at all?
