Guest adlibsoul Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 DAVE WOOLLEY RIP Very sad news about the passing of Dave. One of the nicest guys i ever met. Those who didn't know Dave and who come to our club nights are actually enjoying his legacy. When the Ad-Lib was started( by a group of bored, boozy blokes who were badgered into doing an original 60s soul night by patrons of Lincolns Jolly Brewer pub)little did we know where it would end.I remember well taking a call from Dave asking me what music we played.I told him our music policy,he asked to play and within a couple of hours he came up from Bourne and was behind the decks. The start of a long friendship. He loved his r&b ,especially Little Milton/Little Willie John.Without Daves input the club would have flat-lined and motivation for carrying on the nights wouldn't have been there from a promotors point of view.Dave.encouraged us and spread the word through his vast amount of contacts and friends on the wider scene. He introduced bigger named djs from the scene to our insular little club nights. He got us reviews in soul mags and the soul source web site. The club had gone up to a higher level and the music had grown with it.Dave never stopped saying r&b was the way to go or we would end up "just another soul night" .We took his advice and haven't looked back since. My big regret is he never got to play our cellar-bar venue.I tried contacting him many times over the last 6 months or so to no avail.Apparently he passed away in May/June but folk have only just found out about it. .RIP Dave and thankyou from all at the club you helped create.
