Would love to see them doing a Motown spot, without the schmaltzy show records. Awesome! Saw the Funk Bros at the Apollo in Mancland last year. Would have been after 72 but can't remember when. Remember also booking for Marvin Gaye, not at Odeon but somewhere in B'ham. Never went tho' can't remember what happened or even if the gig took place.........too many years! I also booked to see Marvin Gaye in Bham. It was at Bingley Hall, close to Barbarellas (knocked down early 80s I think) The tickets were available through Bham Eve Mail why I dont know. It took place on the 1st sat of the football season,1976, & my team Wolves, relegated the season before, stuffed Hereford away 6 nil. The look on Marvins face when he stepped onto the stage was a picture- the shabby surroundings had been tarted up with nylon curtain material, no doubt bought from the Rag Market that same day. Despite the grim surroudings (he must of thought he was back on the chickelin tour!) I was estatic to see him in the flesh. You shoulda gone boy! Regards Ada By coincidence I have just watched a fantastic concert by MG filmed in Holland on Sky, would I have loved to have been there I think that Marvin Gaye was ahead of his time & his music still moves me today I rate him as one of the best male soul singers of all time. Not good. im surprised saw him in manchester [apollo] same tour and he was great, my 18th birthday what a present have to agree with GARV saw millie jackson loads of times you always got your moneys worth,so funny too what a girl! can also being surprised by seeing jimmy james too it was at a northern soul midweek do in crewe late 72/early 73,nobody was really inerested in a live act,it was like we dont want jimmy we want to hear the funky sisters but he was fantastic and blew everyone away Edited February 5, 2006 by ric-tic Link to comment Social source share More sharing options...

On toure with the Philly sound. My friend managed to get all the autographs as well, shame the theatre that night was only half full. Excellent night. She fronted Rufus at the time & they were promoting their latest single "tell me something good" She had a absolute fabulous figure & the personality to take over the whole stage. The local DJ, upon introducing her described her as Mick Jagger with t*ts! There were some good soul acts at Barbarellas but my best memory of the place was from a bunch of blokes with paler skin than mine - The Average White Band probably a year or so previous. It was just before they hit the big time & their show was fantastic. A large part of the audience knew the words to their 'new' songs & they seemed to be so genuinely pleased at this that it inspired them to a great performance. I always think its best to see live bands who are on their way up, hungry to put on a good show but unfortunately with the music we love, unless we can time travel, it aint gonna happen! More than anyone I would love to see live in concert, "Marvin Gaye". For me no one come's close to the emotion and depth with which he sing's and of course that voice!!! Don't really care for 'live acts' these days as most of them are not as good as when they cut the record 30 odd years ago, and I would much rather hear the record! Having said that, I don't want to hear a lot of them either! What I mean is, many of the artists that come over, only had one or two hits, northern-wise, and they don't get played anymore, so why see 'em live? Not big on hero worship, me. They are just people who happened to make a record I quite like, or liked, I don't want to meet them or anything! (Did meet the Beatles once tho' outside their hotel.
