Popular Post Dr Good Soul Posted October 25, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2012 Trentham Gardens was Quite big if i remember rightly ? 4
Simsy Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Rugby's not small. Not so much wide, but awfully long.
Cunnie Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Seem to remember that the UK's largest dancefloor is officially the Spa at Bridlington. Sure it's been mentioned on here previously. Also one of the best but don't take my word for it cos I'm always in the Modern room or the Rare room 3
Agentsmith Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 tower ballroom, blackpool...even if it is only twice a year, kings hall, stoke aint bad either.....but i would say that wouldnt i?
Guest ScooterNik Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Is Brid Spa bigger than Morecambe Pier? I seem to remember that as being a good size.
Coops Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 de-montford hall, leicester for the two EASC 'nighters circa 74/75 by a country mile 1
Guest MrC Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Brid Spa has officially the biggest wooden dancefloor in the country.
Little-stevie Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Rugby's not small. Not so much wide, but awfully long. Thought you were talking about yourself there Ian The portable floor at the CIS for all niters in 2004, a very big floor in a big room..... 1
Mark B Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 Nantwich civic looked huge to me when I looked in on way up to chis andertons room when they were on there
Guest manusf3a Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 de-montford hall, leicester for the two EASC 'nighters circa 74/75 by a country mile Two minute delay before the sound from the speakers reached the back of the hall.
Winnie :-) Posted October 26, 2012 Posted October 26, 2012 de-montford hall, leicester for the two EASC 'nighters circa 74/75 by a country mile yep that was a big floor, they also used the whole of the corn exchange in Bedford for one nighter, and that was vast. Biggest I've danced on recently, probably Trentham Gardens? 1

Also one of the best but don't take my word for it cos I'm always in the Modern room or the Rare room yep it's a great dance floor, mainly because of the whoooshing from all that loose fitting clothing on those who dance there keeping it buffed up
Harry Crosby Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Easington welfare, 200sq mtrs wooden sprung dancefloor. Then again i would say that being on the promotion team 2
jimmy clitheroe Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 i seem to remember Belle Vue was a Very Large Dance floor?? Paul 1
Guest chrislokeh Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 Winsford from what i remember was big and Kings Hall
Guest ritchie Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 (edited) I ain't seen them all but I would imagine Brid Spa takes some beating ... Enormous Edited October 27, 2012 by ritchie
Dazdakin Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 de-montford hall, leicester for the two EASC 'nighters circa 74/75 by a country mile Demontfort Hall is not that big to be honest, the building is massive but the concert hall floor ain't that big, as the years go by so do all sense of size!!! I personally think THE biggest is a toss up between the hinckley leisure center and Keele uni before they put that god awful moveable wooden stage in to literally half its size. Venues still running surly has to be tower ballroom. Daz. 1
Coops Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 if you're talking sports halls the wirrina @ peterborough was at least as big as hinkley but not a real dance floor by any means......
Guest lambrettanik Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 are we talkin past or present? i'd say past but in no partcular order-mecca main room.wigan casino, hinkley, alfreton leisure centre, trentham were all pretty big,but i recall someone saying the biggest was belle vue manchester(app the biggest ever dance floor in this country? so iam led to believe),currentley tower ballroom, kings hall.winter gardens blackpool, spa brid, prestatyn id say,any others?-the ritz has a shrinking dance floor!
Guest Phil Armstrong Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Buxton Octagon is very much on the Big size
Guest wazzette Posted October 28, 2012 Posted October 28, 2012 Winsford from what i remember was big and Kings Hall yes i agree with that one.
Joefromupnorth Posted October 31, 2012 Posted October 31, 2012 One that sticks in my mind as a massive floor is the Queen Elizabeth Hall Oldham........if memory serves me it would give Bridlington a run for actual floor space, under the balcony Brid makes it look larger but for dance floor this one has to be up the there........ had a few good nighters there !!!
Guest MrC Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Brid official capacity is 3500, and I'm still sure in the official blurb it states it's the biggest wooden dancefloor (or maybe the biggest sprung wooden dancefloor) in the UK, trying to track down some confirmation at the moment - surely Rob Wigley would know.... ROB!!!
Steve Foran Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 What about Leeds Central? They held a huge allnighter there about 75. Think it was concrete. Lol..
Citizen P Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 What about Leeds Central? They held a huge allnighter there about 75. Think it was concrete. Lol.. If you're talking about the tramshed.... that was NOT a dancefloor... Tony 1
Timbob Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 i seem to remember lincoln drill hall being pretty big
Guest RICTIC Posted November 1, 2012 Posted November 1, 2012 Buxton Octagon is very much on the Big size YES PHILL BUXTON I THINK IS THE BIGGEST
Guest manusf3a Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 (edited) I ain't seen them all but I would imagine Brid Spa takes some beating ... Enormous Bloody hell it looks like a modern day Roman colluseum in size, its gi normous,no danger of filling tht floor in a hurry, thats the problem with huge expansive floors in meg massive buildings the atmosphere is lost before it starts,I like medium to smallish low ceilinged(relatively)dark and jam packed meself. When a dancefloor is full the atmosphere starts cooking, how you going to fill that bird spa?Still I know some folk really like Bigga is better, type places. Cambridge corn exchange,a one off all nighter around 75,foo ken helio graphs, now that was a big place,I dont remember whether it had a wooden dancefloor, probably not,the place reminded me of some huge cavernous bus depot garage in eastern europe, maybe Moscow Russia(wall still up at the time) where all the huge fleet of buses had been cleared out for the night and were sitting top of the tire deep in snow somewhere nearby. You needed to take gear to provide the enery requred to walk from one side of the huge cavern to the other.I maybe imagining this but I think I can remember lots of market type stalls all around waitng to be assembled at just a moments notice. If ever a place was given the wrong name it was sheffields KGB club, that name truely belonged to the sioviet style monolith that was Cambridge corn exchange back in the seventies in its one off role as an all nighter.Cushions on seats, indoor heating, carpets niet! such things are western decadence just shut up and dance to condition"Red",and nothing records on decks to make revolutions of 45rpm on the "Capital"ism, labels allowed comrades. Rob Wigley Posted November 2, 2012 Posted November 2, 2012 "‹At the time of building in the 1930s Brid Spa was deliberately built with EUROPE'S largest sprung Ballroom dance floor . I am reliably told the previous holder was Blackpool Winter gardens. Brid must still be the UKs largest permanent Dance floor, plus since renovation the floors are continuous throughout the building as well. I saw Oasis at Brid Spa and there were 3,500 people in the room, mainly on the dance floor in front of the stage. Largest crowd at Prestatyn was 3,750 but when the acts were on they were crammed in everywhere, record bar, those 700 seat at the back and on the carpeted areas down either side-- its a big floor but possible only 2/3 rds the size of the Spa.... Thing was when I first saw it from the balcony at the last weekender, it was rammed and full of atmosphere... I agree though it would only really suit an event like that and the last 2 hrs of the Sunday they shut all the specialist rooms early so we all had to make our way down there... Well worth it
Andyj Posted November 16, 2012 Posted November 16, 2012 Dunelm House, Durham which held all dayers late 70s early 80s was a split level dance floor and seemed massive then!
Mark Jones Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Remember Chris King's Hinckley leisure centre do's were pretty big. Always 2000+ in the 80's. Most memorable night being for me is anniversary do..when 2000 punters held 2 minutes silence for Jackie Wilson dying. Very moving.
Peter99 Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 I'm probably way off the mark - which is ok, but Clifton Hall dance floor was pretty big back in the day. But so were Wagon Wheels and Curly Wurlys - and they seem very small these days. Peter 1
Reg Scott Posted November 17, 2012 Posted November 17, 2012 Manchester Ritz - not 'the' biggest but just right
Guest lambrettanik Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Manchester Ritz - not 'the' biggest but just right :wub:have you been recentley??? -its ruined!!! its smaller than its ever been and sinks down from the dj booth then rises in the middle then sinks down to the stage-just awful-no criminal!

Nope, not been since the classic dayers - but that's a real shame so I'll just have to live with the rosy memories ..
Soulof Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 Trentham Gardens was Quite big if i remember rightly ? By far the biggest I ever seen and attended. And part of it was even closed off with massive curtains if I remember right

Rob I think Robs right here other than the Empress Ballroom within the Winter Gardens in Blackpool now has over 12,500 sq ft of dance floor since some of the carpeted areas have been reduced. It is 49mtrs by 24mtrs and also holds 3,500 in one room. When we had Bettye Lavette over in 2004(?) we didn't even use the Empress but four others in the same complex and had close to 2000 in. I think its touch and go between the two but as a venue the Winter Gardens has much much more dance floor space I'm sure (but that wasn't the question lol) 1
Guest Posted November 20, 2012 Posted November 20, 2012 i seem to remember Belle Vue was a Very Large Dance floor?? ashy1 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 think the biggest is brid,,,,but the best is easington,,,,,,,,,,,,, only 35 mile from my house and well worth it every 8 weeks,,,,,,
Back Street Blue Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Out of QE Hall Oldham, Prestatyn main hall and Brid' Spa.....I'd say Brid' Spa is the biggest and that Sheffield City Hall is also up there. Mecca main room was big, so is Blackpool Winter Gardens. Never had the pleasure to dance at Bell Vue, but went on the bobs and to the zoo there plenty of times when I was a kid! Forgetting size for the moment, the best I've ever danced on was the old raised/sprung floor at the Ritz, sadly replaced with one of the worst I've ever been on.
ashley Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Nottingham Palais was big "back in the day", Winsford was big, Prestatyn and Kings Hall are big. There is quite a few to squabble over!
Guest wigantojapan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Aberdeen all nighter is still going and thats a massive dance floor
