I didn't see it, but I kind of guess where you are coming from. Dionne's voice must have dropped at least two octaves since the early 60s.

Did you see The Beach Boys on there the other week? Honestly it was lamentable. Much as I don't like their sound I know it was "young and vibrant" and in it's own way exciting -although not for me. Instead what we saw was a bunch of tired old men with practically no voice left strumming guitars on some limp folk-rock twaddle.

I think think you need to look at it from the view that its a real opportunity to actually see these type of artists live, sure if you don't keep it up your voice will go, or so I'm told, but as with some of the acts we have seen at weekenders, it kinda doesn't really matter, we just want to see these famous artists sing in a live environment.

Sandi Shaw was another, who I'd never seen live at all, well it was on Jools Holland's show, but it was great to see her dancing about barefoot.

rose tinted.... :shades:

It's a great format and unique to have anything even like it, I don't watch it to be honest unless there is someone on I want to see but wish I hadn't now :( her voice has truly gone I'm afraid, has been for some time now, very sad.

fair play to her.

I saw her a few years back, she was rough as old boots for the 1st 30 minutes, struggling to find her voice, then started to sing like an angel again for the rest of the show, which was fantastic,

I much prefer to remember these great artists in their heyday dont wnt to see them as elderly and struggling , the music they were famous for was vibrant and young and thats how it should stay . I watched some youtube clips of Levi Stubbs recently and it was heartbreaking and painfull to watch someone that had given so much pleasure so obviosly suffering .

Performing is in the blood of some of these artists, esp. now as there is no record business left now so to speak. For all the huff and puff they love doing it and connecting with their fans. Uncle Burtbach was another one - didn't he have some 'tuneless hippy' groaning his way through "Kentucky Bluebird" on Jools H a few years back, I remember being in awe at how awful it sounded.....Poor old Lou J would be turning in his preverbial grave at this surely? I thought.
