Andreas B Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 (edited) extremely worthy cause, for what she's given me in music I'll certainly be donating to her. probably my favorite female soul vocalist of all time, and thats a lofty title. I'd strongly suggest anyone who's a fan of her music to do the same. thanks for posting! will be sharing this. Edited October 23, 2012 by AndreasB 2
Roburt Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Eula performing live at Prestatyn in 2009. I got to chat with her both before she arrived in the UK and at Prestatyn. I found her to be a very friendly, open & caring person. If anyone deserves our help, she does. 1
Roburt Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) I'm away (again) at present, so do not at the moment have access to my bio on Eula (its on an old computer). When I get home, I'll copy it across & post it here. In the meantime, here's an old piece (not by me) about Eula & her 45 "Try" .... https://www.georgiaso...-tragar-6814-2/ Edited October 24, 2012 by Roburt
Andreas B Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Try is such an amazingly beautiful song, everything about it is top notch. kills me every time.
Popular Post Agent45 Posted October 24, 2012 Author Popular Post Posted October 24, 2012 Someone could release a CD of her works to sell, and she could get royalties to help her situation. There could then be a heated debate on whether Jim from the Old Toad in Westborough should be allowed to play tracks from it at their northern soul night, as Harry's got the track he played on original 45 which he purchased on the open 2nd hand market, the purchase of which provided absolutely no royalties whatsoever for the artist as she's never seen a penny from her single releases. Just a suggestion, like cheers Sutty Sutty (and all) In 2008, the Numero Group released a 2 CD compilation of the Tragar and Note labels that includes 11 Eula Cooper songs and a picture of Eula right there on the cover. Eula does receive royalties from this, so I recommend it to anyone who doesn't yet have a copy. Eula's present situation has a pretty hard deadline however, that royalty checks won't immediately help with, I'm afraid. 4

I believe this is available for purchase digitally as well, may be wrong but I believe so. It compiles a lot of her best tracks, most of which are extremely hard to find in any format. wonder if Numero is doing anything to help out as well? would be cool of them.
Peter99 Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Does anyone know how much money is neede prior to that deadline in early November? I couldn't see anything in the linked article. Thanks Peter
Popular Post Des Crombie Posted October 24, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) Having lived in the US Texas last year and having employed people and set up an office there I had to learn all about medical insurance plans and the lack of cover. Anyway I came away shocked and disturbed by the medical insurance systems in practice there with no compassion and a lack of a decent safety net. Unlike the UK a serious illness can bankrupt you and your family. While some moan about the NHS, it's a god send compared to the insurance systems in the US. Eula states that her husband had cancer and that took everything. This holds true to what I know. Sorry not very soulfull but a fact of life in the US. Edited October 24, 2012 by Des Crombie 4
Amsterdam Russ Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Prophetic words... Beggar's can't be choosy 1
Shinehead Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 This seems to be starting to go the way of a slanging match about something unrelated , its a appeal for donations to a fund set up to benefit Eula Cooper if people don,t want to donate end of story . 1
Jumpinjoan Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 No disrespect but I think with it being such a tight deadline and no way of knowing how much is needed and no way of seeing if that target is reached will make people a little wary. Also what if the required amount isn't raised? What happens to all the money that is raised? A little more clarity would help maybe. Again, no disrespect
Roburt Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Back in the day, guys in groups who had local / national hits even kept their day jobs coz they had families (like Eula who's husband has been fighting cancer for some time). If you had a family, the odd tour + local gigs were too haphazard to fund their normal lifestyle. Guys have even quit hit groups coz the group had accepted a big tour gig & one guy couldn't get time off & also couldn't afford to loose their job. When the Masqueraders played Prestatyn, their lead singer stayed in the US to keep his 'truck driving' job. For the guys (who still play regular gigs in Memphis clubs) this was their biggest / best gig in 30 years so for Lee Jones to 'give it up' can't have been an easy decision ... ... but in the real world, keeping everyday finances in order is the main thing. In the UK, we have quite friendly welfare / medical rules. They do not in the US. There if you fall on hard times, the rich there will just say.... serves you right, pull yourself out of the problem, get a job, I'm not helping, you're a waster. 1
Popular Post Winnie :-) Posted October 25, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2012 This has all got a bit daft . Yep, and the reason it gets daft is that those who don't want to donate, feel the need to give their reasons for not doing so. Chalky said it earlier, if the thread or the cause is of no interest, then why comment? Let those who want to help do so, plenty of other threads for those that don't want to assist to be miserable on, 9
Popular Post Andreas B Posted October 25, 2012 Popular Post Posted October 25, 2012 sometimes in these situations, a payment of part of the total is all is needed to extend the deadline. I'm from the US originally, have been living overseas for 3 years, and have seen these things happen first hand to friends and family, so maybe I take this posting a little more to heart. as stated before too, I'm a huge fan of her music, so why wouldn't I want to help her? as others have mentioned on here, please keep your comments to yourself unless you're willing to offer up condolences or solutions. Those interested in helping her are well aware that there are a lot of you who won't want to donate, for various reasons. that is fine, and natural. there's no need to feel guilty or have to explain why; it only becomes an issue that pushes a topic of discussion into the 2 and 3 page mark when someone bothers to give a snarky comment in light of a real situation. your views on how "making it" in music works, jobs etc. doesn't change the fact that someone has swallowed their pride to ask for help, therefor stating that a real situation is at hand for that person. be considerate, please. 4
Mike Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 well said anyone wants to talk about charity etc in general then start a new thread in freebasing as for the trying to be "ironic" crap or the "clever" one liners - take them elsewhere not needed or wanted on here these sort of posts have already damaged enough threads on here recently, and not going to allow them to sour genuine threads such as this if you can't show the actual artist any respect then at least try and show some to the member who started this thread and keep the posts related to the actual subject - a request for assistance 2
Mike Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Can you expand upon that Chalky because I'm afraid that I haven't got a clue what you're talking about, I have never offered ' shares' in Planet Records or asked for donations. will split this thread in a moment as has gone off the main subject
Mike Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 (edited) thread split charity related discussion can be found here https://www.soul-sour...om-aats-thread/ The split thread has now been removed due to off topic and inappropriate posts. Regards, Dave Edited October 26, 2012 by Dave Moore
