Here's another oldie but in my top 10 alltime faves , bought 3 copies from the states late 70's I think , off Bob Cataneo,

sold 2 for £2 each and kept one for me. Since found out 20 odd years later that they were a bit iffy?? :wicked:

CASANOVA TWO - WE GOT TO KEEP ON - EARLY BIRD

Cheers

Swifty

Swifty

Martyn regarding Casanova Two on Early Bird, yes mate there are boots on orange issues, they look real good too! but the matrix is scratched in rather than stamped, and the label colour a bit of a lighter orange. There's also white demo boots as well i think? that don't have the word "records" under the Early Bird logo.

What a cracking tune it is tho! and so perfect for today imo.

a cracker Martyn, from that man Tony Bruno (and his missus) Did read somewhere that it was Tony who discovered Maxine, when she walked into his Nomar Records office in NY dunno if this is true, was in contact with Tony Bruno a couple of years back, and am sure he confirmed this?

Martyn, there's been a couple for sale just lately, the demos seem to go for around £50 - £75 depending on who's selling it

Keeping the pace up today with:

The Vanguards - 'I can't use you girl' (on Whizz fittingly enough!)

Covering two bases with this one,up-tempo & forgotten oldie.........must admit probably a bit too fast for me these days but once upon a time I could give this a right good go

Herb Fame - You're Messin' Up My Mind Date

PS Three bases as it's a cheapie aswell

Last from me for a while as I've almost run out of records from my collection to add :(

David Ruffin - Each Day Is A Lifetime

If you've not heard this before you're in for a treat, I think. A Wagnarian propotioned slice of Motown soul featuring doom laden strings and harpsichord following a sweeping orchestral intro, and David Ruffin , immediately post-breakup, reporting “feeling like a king” while holding his love but now trying to survive day to day, minute to minute, replaying the whole love affair over in his mind, wondering how he’ll make it to the next day and only achieving it by " stayin' a little longer in the shower and fussing around a little more at work " . Perfectly captures the despondency after a break -up. The orchestrated breakdown near the end is totally sublime as are the brackground vocals.

Written in 1969 by Henry " Hank " Cosby, Zesses & Fekaris, the latter 2 being involved in writing Time Will pass You By, I believe. The song was brilliantly arranged by David Van DePitte. It was slated for inclusion on the unissued "David" album but fortunately came out on a 45 in 1971. The soundfile for the clip comes from an mp3 I made from Spotify as the the vinyl copy doesn't do justice to the wonderful production.

I only became aware of this recently after hearing it on Richard Hawley's superb Rockabilly Show on Radio 2. Bought a copy on ebay not realising it was a reissue :shhh: Great record! I've got some other good Ray Charles tracks on my YouTube Channel - click the link below.

Hi Martin

I've got "I Chose To Sing The Blues" on a Greatest Hits album. I'll have a listen to your other recommendation. Have you heard his " Something's Got To Change" ? It's on my you tube channel - link below. I've had over 15,000 hits on his " In The Heat Of The Night " and have had a few comments on it too. Underrated artist by too many soul fans I think and his country stuff is great too!

Another of the storming oldies that are a bit hard to keep up with today, I still love this, and that woman wailing/screaming about two thirds of the way through could shatter glasses when played loud!

((other sides not too shabby either)

Nite Train - To The Bitter End

I posted the other side of this some time ago, but how can you not love this, the more played side of 'you better think again'
