carl baxter
Did anyone watch American Pickers on the television a few nights ago ? They were in Malibu, up in the hills where all the tv and film stars live. The pickers visited an ex hippy type who had a nine acre smallholding miles up a dirt-track , with all kinds of old gear. In one of his sheds the hippy reckoned he had over half a million LPS and god knows how many singles he must have had. One of the pickers chose a random single and said Booker T and the MGS.......I dont know anything about records.so I will pass on that lot. I wonder if anyone on here knows the hippy and has been through his records. If not how many more are there like him. Link to comment Social source share

Yeah, I seen it a few month back - was quite a few bits/labels I saw when they scanned his singles. Link to comment Social source share

pikeys dog
Last time I was in Chicago, I was given a contact who worked at one of these storage unit places, and he bid on them when they came up. All of the main dealers had been to him in the past and he was pretty bitter about what he'd sold them and the prices they'd paid. His best find was three copies of Lee McKinney & The Magnetics - When I'm With My Baby - Sable, one of which had a slight warp - wrapped in a sweater and in a chest of drawers. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Fourmintsover
American Pickers is great, but they hardly ever do anything involving records. Like this much more than Pawn Stars or the Storage Locker one... American Pickers is a bit more intelligent and isn't always strictly about making money, like those other shows. They make up the prices as they go along, ("yeah this will fetch $200"), but you rarely see them sell anything.....And most of the stuff they show is crap That Pawn Stars in Vegas is quality - specially that Chumley fella ! Northern Soul Uk
slightly off topic, and this thread will probably get moved shortly anyway. But I was watching one of the 'car Boot' programmes a few months ago when John Knowles was one of the 'hunters'. He found a 7" record and said, if this is an original copy it's worth a lot of money' I think it was an old Motown one, something like that. But many folk know that John Knowles was a regular at the casino. Just interesting I thought. I watch all of the ones mentioned above, I love em, wife can't see it though? Must be the bargain hunter in me. Edited November 2, 2012 by Steve Luigi Link to comment Social source share
Ritchieandrew
Yeah...........i saw that episode as well, i think they bought a very rare motorcycle engine. Personally think there's a lot of "poetic licence" involved with the prices asked, and they don't tend to pay the going rate for anything.!! Spook
That Pawn Stars in Vegas is quality - specially that Chumley fella ! I was over in Vegas a couple of months ago, don't go to Wax Traks to see Rich as he just pesters you all the time while you are there and he has JM price guides and the internet and cos your british he expects you to buy in bulk !!!!! As I have seen Pawn Stars I thought i would pop over and have a look, mid afternoon they were queing out of the door about 30 yards, said to myself I'll go back later. I tipped up about 22:30 and it was quiet and the conversation went a bit like this: "If you get any 45's in for pawn do you send for Rich Rosen to value them or who else do you use" ? in a spanish american reply " Don't understand" I replied " Any 45's who do you call to value them" the reply came back " we can only take pre 1900's 45"s" I thought I'm wasting my time here , he thought I mean't hand guns !!!!! Worth a look though ! 1 Link to comment Social source share
