jocko Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Want the original release of this old Casino sound. ( Not the Joe Boy Release ) I never realised this was played at Casino, when was this?
Tezza Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) I never realised this was played at Casino, when was this? Played around 76 onwards (if memory serves). Can be found on a CD of Casino, the one where it is narrated at the begining ... Loved it then but fell out of favour. Not seen it on Dore much but available on Joe Boy everywhere. Played again at Stafford but again sank below the horizon. Great old sound to it Edited October 8, 2012 by Tezza 1

Great old sound to it Way before my time, 76, I only remember if from Stafford, but then lots of things from that time had a couple of gos earlier but didn't make it. Do you know who played it at Wigan Not sure I agree it was below the radar in the 80's, it was fairly massive then, Not sure who was first then, I always think of Ion but suspect someone like Guy may have had it first, anyone remember. Fantastic Northern Soul. G

Fantastic Northern Soul. G I don't mean during the 80's I mean it was popular then but now seems to be a forgotten toon. Seldom, if ever gets played. These days there are so many 100mph and crossovers played that the older, more mellow sounds, are getting drowned out ( Not saying everywhere before people start 'putting me right' ) - Have to be careful what you say on here !! Some great stuff came to the top thanks to Stafford. Awesome place and one of the reasons we can still go to Northern do's these days, kept it alive !!
John Elias Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I played this at Hitsville weekender Mojacar this September (Sunday night spot),allways attracts interest. not for sale tho sorry. 1
Monkey Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 This was massive for Keb towards the end of Stafford and just beyond, I eventually convinced him to part with it a few months after TOTW closed but had to trade Charles Brandy on Blue Cat to get it. As far far as played at Wigan ... not as far as I know it was deemed as a new sound when Keb played it, just because its on a Wigan CD doesn't mean it was played there. If you still want a copy on Doré Andy Dyson did have a spare, it has also turned up on ebay for around 500 within the last year (bargain)
Philt Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I sold one for what i thought ended up being peanuts last year, no bleeder wanted it : ( 1
Tezza Posted October 9, 2012 Author Posted October 9, 2012 I sold one for what i thought ended up being peanuts last year, no bleeder wanted it : ( As I said earlier Phil, quality tooon but long forgotten. Not on the radar anymore. Would love to play it out again !!
Dave Moore Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I played this at Hitsville weekender Mojacar this September (Sunday night spot),allways attracts interest. not for sale tho sorry. And it sounded great Mate. As I said at the time, I think that's the first time it's been played at Hitsville. It kinda dropped off peoples radars a number of years ago. Perfect for reactivation now I'd have thought. Regards, Dave 2
Chalky Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I wouldn't say this was long forgotten or even forgotten. Still hear it out enough to remind you how good it is. 1
Tezza Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 I wouldn't say this was long forgotten or even forgotten. Still hear it out enough to remind you how good it is. I need to change the places I frequent. Difficult to crow bar 'new stuff' into play lists round here !!

Steve L Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 I need to change the places I frequent. Difficult to crow bar 'new stuff' into play lists round here !! Very true, they'd all stand with their arms folded and look at you like you'd got two heads! Fairly regular play at Burnley over the last few years BTW (Stu Bennett) 2
John Elias Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Never heard this at Wigan, probably cos it wasn't good enough probably not the right tempo for wigan more like
Pete S Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 probably not the right tempo for wigan more like Don't be silly.
jocko Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Never heard this at Wigan, probably cos it wasn't good enough The alternative theory, from people who were there obviously, I was still painting my face with lightning strikes, it was too soulful and subtle for the average 1976 punter.........
Pete S Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 ACCURATE Wigan Playlist 1976-77, so whats wrong with the tempo? Pete S Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 The alternative theory, from people who were there obviously, I was still painting my face with lightning strikes, it was too soulful and subtle for the average 1976 punter......... Well as you weren't there it'd be best not to make such daft comments and read my playlist wouldn't it? And if you were painting your face with lightning strikes in 1976 you must have looked pretty daft as you were three years too late... 1
Md Records Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 There is an instrumental to this, on the flip of one of the cheap whispers or superbs tracks on the label, titled "Claire De Looney" or something similar, not as good as the vocal, but a bit of trivia someone may find remotely interesting. Des
Tezza Posted October 11, 2012 Author Posted October 11, 2012 heard it out not to long ago......quite a rare one so maybe thats the problem.....don,t believe this was played at wigan despite it being on a wigan cd............original styrene I seem to think I heard it at The Casino but fleetingly. Obviously, we don't hear everything that gets played. As it came and went very quickly it may have slipped under the periscope. As Pete says, a lot of the 'slower' stuff played back in the day. We weren't all 100mph slaves. I like it. It would be a sad world if we all liked the same stuff. Vive La Difference Lets not fall into an argument over this !!

Tezza Posted October 12, 2012 Author Posted October 12, 2012 Despite the games of oneupmanship, I am now at ease with this and have sufficient leads to progress to a fruitful outcome. Thank you for all your help and for your information as to the history.
