i think it undermines the integrity of the club when you get folk re-inventing their past , i know of one or two that tell me they went to the casino in a certain year and they would have been 13/14 at the time .and i would have been 15/16, i know for a fact they didnt but to me it kind of gives the image (to outsiders , stiffs etc , thats what we called non souls by the way)that it was a bit ,you know ,youth clubby? thats my gripe about it otherwise couldnt give a shit, they know theyre bullshitting,

So you don't think there was anyone who went to Wigan aged 13 or 14?

not sayin that at all , if you read my post right im on about guys i know who said they did, n i know they didnt ,im on about bullshitters,ok

Ok, it just sounded like you knew for a fact they didn't go because they would have been 14. Fair enough.

I once had a bullshitter uncle who was one of these know-all wankers (most of my uncles and their families were in any case) who claimed he was an black belt in Tae Kwan Do. When I told him I had a friend who went one better than that and was a black belt in Shakuhachi-Senzuri, he claimed to be an black belt in that too.

It's a good thing, for his sake, that he never looked up Shakuhachi Senzuri - from what I'd been led to believe all these years, it's the Japanese phrase for 'wank'! Maybe Dave Flynn can confirm that one way or the other? If I'm wrong, and it's complimentary, then my lying uncle (well, one of them) has had the last laugh from his grave!

Good one ,martial arts expertise is one of those fertile grounds for the Bull shitter, how many have you encountered who during a generel discussion will say they are an expert in some rare unheard of form of such and such, then as some one else said earlier theres those attics that are the home of so many ultra rare records but theres oh so much clutter? to go through to reach them not to mention having to buy or borrow some metal steps to reach the attic itself.I can think kof another one,the treasure filled lock up or warehouse that happens to be in the town or city the person used to live in quite often some miles distant, these buildings can vary in size but are usually quite large and situated at the bottom of a relatives huge garden etc.Inside will be every record you have ever heard of or wanted, being kept in ",storage",there will also however be many other strange and wonderfull items keeping them company, whatever it is you name it theyve got it, back in the old storage unit of couse. When starting archery some time back I was hunting around for a good bow to buy,one of the owners of a sesame storage unit who had moved to Peterborough a few years back and got into our company was always saying ,yeh, got quite a few top class, compound or recurve bows back in the storage unit ,he was always going to go and fetch one to sell to me, ,when he next went back to soham and visted the unit at the bottom of his brothers garden.Of ,course he never ever went there but when I did buy one I wanted had to say"I would have sold you a better one half the price if you waited. The persons unit contained such diverse items as a gyrocopter, records, marine engines, various forms of weaponary old and new, first edition books, valueable oil paintings, jet skis to name a few and he also had two cabin cruisers moored on the river at the bottom of the garden,he was also a master of some unknown deadly martial art taught only to members of the special forces etc.The bloke had worked as a private jet pilot in america, travelled with the circus where he was taught to work with tigers?.Thing is he had only ever signed on the dole since any of us knew him but he could tell brilliant stories that had us all enthralled from start to finish even though we all knew the liklihood of them being true was very low,in his case I cant really see the the harm in his bullshitting and he was quite well liked..What I dont like is the sort of liars one of whom you mentioned earlier who tried to get a record cheap with out right bullshit or those who have people send money on the basis of lies, the sort of liars who hurt people intentionally with their bs. most of the other sort of bs I think quite a good laugh .I liked the one about the peterborough bloke who put on accents posted earlier in this thread.Gene dont you find the funniest thing about the many martial arts bullshitters when men get together and socialise is when they actually start to demonstrate a few of the "moves"",in front of you,not having done the martial arts thing myself I still think I can tell who has and who hasnt when the demonstrations start after a few drinks and Ive seen some strange looking moves in my time! I always think back to a poster i once saw by skate clothiers no fear. It read "the older i get the better i was" tickled me first time i saw it probably 20 or so years ago now and still comes to mind now when i have to endure stories of i was there etc etc. Ultimately who gives a flying f*ck. People who know the score know the score

So you don't think there was anyone who went to Wigan aged 13 or 14?

I would say there were no 13 year olds going to Wigan, we were 16 when we went and were terrified of not getting in, how could a 13 year old get in?

I see people saying I was 13, I was 14, so parents let their 13 year olds out all night back in the mid 70's did they? No they didn't.

OK so there may have been some freak of nature type 13 year olds who looked older but if people think there were loads of 13 and 14 year olds attending the allnighters, sorry, that's just folklore.

I don't know if the chap went or not how can I know, but from the tone of his posts ,and I didn't read all of em,he inferred He was a regular visitor for a couple of years or more, but to me 2 things don't add up first he would have been 13 or 14 second the Torch nighters only lasted 1 year,I know what I think ,but its up to you lot what you think

He was one of those lads that looked massively older than he was and now looks massively older than he is !!

At school he was the one that you didn't want to stand next to in the shower !! ( sounds a bit pervy that !!)

At one time in my life I used to wish I'd been old enough to go to the Torch and early Wigan years, mainly due to older lads forever telling us how good it was.

Now I'm glad I didn't cos I'd now be nearer to 60 than 50 rather than the other way round, like some of you old buggers on here!

Started Notts Palais dayers in 75 aged 15 and Wigan in 78, never claimed anything else

As a 17 year old at Wigan I cant remember too many younger ones although there would have been some

I used to go to the North Park soul nights(before it was called northern) when I was thirteen(Iknow its not an all nighter but it was a soul club in a different town and took a bit of ducking and diving for me to get there) and also got served at the bar no problem,in fact I had to get the drinks as my two mates Keith Harpur and George Mckimmie both a few years older than me were a good few inches shorter and used to get questioned if they were old enough.I remember when the torch started because wilky and a few other Corby lads went to the first few but me then aged 14 got an involuntary holiday for16 months all in so sat it out in captivity.I think there was always a few young, younger folk going to all nighters back then I think chic was just turned 15 when he started, most though were like myself imo apprentice bad boys being taken there by older lads, staying out all night to the horror of parents etc especially at 13,but all in all it always had the appearence of a later teen and older(in those days twenties)scene to me.Youth club it never was but pretty edgy though. Dont know about telling fibs about venues..doesnt seem any point... and i must agree with some of the comments the poor bugger on face book is just probably stating its a torch or wheel classic etc.... how many will talk about "This was played at wigan" or a "wigan Sound" ive heard that from quite big name DJ's who never went to wigan ....we dont seem to ball crush anyone on that score....

I have told the odd porky to the wife about how much some of my tunes cost ...(com on guys weve had to) hey they were all a fiver love.. :D ...then bank statements kept landing (drat that bank and cheeky postman for dropping me in it)...i now live in a seperate house

But lets face it on here theres been some lying fuckers when their talking about how much they paid for a tune or theres a bit of a brag going on ...theres always a couple of quid knocked off to save face.... i know someone who paid one price for a tune on the bay and posted up on here he "got it a year ago £100 cheaper" !!!Lol.... or when the "GURUS" have been spouting knowledge copied and pasted from wikipedia ha ha.. so bugger it let folk have their fantasy time its theraputic for them......they'll be back on the medication soon

. so i'll put me tin hat on and await the flack for that paragraph...........

That would have been 76/7 terry as johno is younger that me by at least two years and I first went Sammys/Wigan in 76 aged 16

I was in the same class as his older brother mick

Johno and chimp were both younger than me

In 74 Johno would have been 11/12 ?

Good to see you the other day mate

Some coppers nicked us once after a car crash on the way home from Clifton Hall. Me and my mates were taken to hospital and the police literally dragged us from our hospital beds down to the local nick. Sat there being questioned in a heightened state of paranoia about all sorts of shit - including how much gear I'd consumed the night before and who i got it off .....................I told a right load of fibs! The car which collided with us was being driven by the Chief Constable of the force with his lady wife in the passenger seat.

Nothing wrong with getting old. It sure beats the alternative. What COULD be lousy about getting old, would be being old and still being an ignorant fool (as, sad to say, happens to more than a few of us humans).
