Citizen P Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Bazza 57 and six month ,no suppose it don't,but inffering you were there ,don't sit rite with me Bazza Well, yes I'd agree on that score. Why feel the need to invent a history for yourself. Never went to The Torch meself btw-started Pendulum in '72 and by the time I'd worked meself up for it, it'd shut-- Mind you I have a few mates who are still trying to convince me I went to The Wheel Must be the fresh faced look. T 2
Bazza Posted October 8, 2012 Author Posted October 8, 2012 The torch only really lasted a year 72 to 73,if any one sez different they don't know what they are talking about ,it opened in 65 as a mod club, but nighters only lasted just 1 year Bazza

Ah yes, BS in the scene. It's everywhere and has been for years. Agree with tonyp-It doesn't stop anyone posting stuff as such-and-such classics unless he/she claims he/she actually WAS there. By the way, sometimes I hate telling everyone how old I am and sometimes I don't give a shit. I was 13 when the Torch closed its doors so I wasn't exactly a regular!. Stuart Bower Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Anyway, Classic or not, I try not to post any tune up on Facebook that I don't own a copy of myself. If people turn up at our venue on the strength of what they've already seen and heard they may be slightly disappointed that we've not got what they expected. Rest assured though that all the stuff they DO hear will be enjoyable.. 2

Russ Vickers Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 There are always folk around that claim this n that, but even those that have been around years are learning all the time - I have far more respect for those that are honest. Please dont get me started on tall stories about records either. I was once diggin around the second hand record stalls n such in Portsmouth, when in one I met a very respected Motown collector, who had an arrangement with the local stores regarding any Motown, they would save things for him to collect next time he passed by. This particular day he asked me what I had been buying recently, I had just bought a copy of 'You Aint Sayin Nothin new' on US Motown, which at the time was a huge play all over the UK....I was gob smacked when this guy insisted in front of the store owner that he had a copy on a British Motown...I diplomatically tried to infer he might be mistaken, but was 'shouted' down by the 'expert'.....I can only assume that said collector felt the need to impress, then belittle me in front of his 'source' ?....needless to say my respect for this guy was shattered & I can never look at the guy in the same light.....a totally uneccessary lie...why ? Russ Vickers Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Name em Russ. Im thick as mince when it comes to tunes & always extremely happy to hear a good yarn about a record, especially if I learn something.... Best Russ 2
Len Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) ...Or they choose NOT to discuss their lack of 'history', thus creating a completely false persona. There's nothing worse than someone pretending to be something they're not - As stated earlier, I have respect for honesty If anyone ever goes on and on about The Wheel in a way that nothing else has happened since (You know the types) I always say "What the invention of? - Chr*st you are old!"Â - Just to let it be known that I'm not hanging onto every word they're saying... Stuart Bower Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Well, this sort of thing has been going on for years in the scene. Bullshit. Some people feel the need to be respected and to impress, To be thought of as the 'big men/women on the scene'. Amazingly been everywhere, Had every big record and (amazingly) sold them, Probably been in the scene for some time as just another face in the crowd but feel the need to finally have at least SOME recogition for the time they've put in? Or were they around at the time but wish they HAD been there? Who knows?
NEV Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Sometimes Fibs can be good though ... especially the stories about only so many copies of a 45 in existence because ???? 1

Sharon Cooper Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Aup Bazza! Hope you're doing ok? I had to smile when I read your post because its rife isn't it? People claiming to have been here , there and everywhere, being DJs for God knows how long, being mates with certain people because they think it gives them some credence in the eyes of others etc etc... I just think they must be very very sad people with no history to their boring lives that they have to make up stories to big themselves up. Just off topic a bit but someone I have known for many many years has acquired a completely different past to the one I know he had even gaining a degree along the way when I know he never went near a university or could have actually ever completed one!!! Some people just make you laugh!! Take Care Bazza - hope to see you around soon : Perhaps at Hollingwood? Sharon X 3
grant Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 (edited) sadly i cant lie about NOT going wigan and being too young coz i stuck out like a sore thumb in those feckin 'Prince & Princess' bags but can brag far too young for the torch or twisted weal Edited October 9, 2012 by grant 1

I once asked an 'Ol Boy' about his 'beginings' as I was interested in his take on the early days, because he had 'an edge'.....he replied, "That was then Lenny, what's now is important" - Wow, cool or what?! - My respect for this individual is now sky high. Russ Sadly Russ, not everyone sees through these people so it works to some degree, it must somehow make them feel better about themselves. To be fare though, this is another thing that is rife in all walks of life. I often hear people telling stories about some situation or other that I was at and I have to bite my lip for it being so far from the truth. I don't challenge, simply because the 'story' is entertaining, so why 'break' the nice atmosphere? I'm sure some of you 80's Football 'Hoodlums' have seen this happen many times. A famous person - David Nivon, was known as a b*llshitter (Story teller) but was so entertaining, everyone loved him for it. I think the subtle difference is, some exaggerate to make their story more entertaining, whereas others exaggerate to impress - that's where for me, it falls flat and I stop listening. Len.
