Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Not sure if this has been on here before, But I have just purchased a 45 purely because it sounds so familiar. I only have a tiny sample of the record, about the first 20 seconds or so, and I am sure I have heard it before but can't think where and what it is? Something in the back of my mind it telling me that is is the instrumental of some Northern vocal track? Has anyone any idea or am I going mental in my old age? https://www.theleedsgallery.com/tunes/times gone by.mp3

Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Hi Steve Slowed down version of the Deadbeats - Who Do You Think You Are? Peter Is that what it is? I haven't knowingly heard that, and this sound so familiar to me. Has anyone reviewed this before on here?

Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) That's what it sounds like to me mate - i haven't the best ear, but they are so similar it's uncanny. Sounds similar I must admit, but not convinced that it is the same, also they are written by different writers, if that is anything to go by? it's the horns at the end of the clip that ring a bell with me. Ah. Sorry, I'm not convinced it's the same thing either. Misunderstood your original post - I thought you were interested to know what it sounded like. Still, it is dead similar - mm, bit of a pun there! Edited October 5, 2012 by Peter99
Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Thanks for the thread link Godzilla, but still doesn't give any tips on what it is, was, or whatever :-) Thing is I have only heard the first 20 seconds of the track, I hope it doesn't break down into a C&W hoedown, line dance monster after that LOL! There are no clips of it anywhere! Edited October 5, 2012 by Steve Luigi

Peter99 Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Quote from clip "Remember this been played by Richard Sirling at the Casino around 1977 - covered up as "Don,t Say A Word" Mm, the full thing sounds far more like a James Bond theme than the Deadbeats and or Yvonne Baker put together. More Deadbeats than Yvonne Baker in my book though - before the Deadbeats probably in terms of Sir Dickies wigan context. 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Heheh!! amazing what a bit of detective work can achieve! Psyche I believe the genre is! Edited October 5, 2012 by Steve Luigi 1
dthedrug Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 Quote from clip "Remember this been played by Richard Searling at the Casino around 1977 - covered up as "Don,t Say A Word" HI ALL I can't remember the vocal (thank GOD) But remember it being played at WIGAN + EASC by RS, I think he said it was ARTHER WRIGHT ORCH? *(CU) and yes it does sound like JOHN BARRY, Nice record would like a copy myself, DAVE
Northern Soul Uk Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) I'll play it anyway Dave see what reaction it gets, I'll let you know! And on second thought, it sounds better without the vocal :-) Edited October 5, 2012 by Steve Luigi 1
