I wouldn't be suprised if some of Guy's and Keb's spots from Stafford era were.

Andy Rix once did a spot where he introduced everything by it's once C/U name

Or are successfully playing a few that remain C/UPS :yes:biggrin.gif ATB STEVIE

Check this Mecca playlist out for 1974. I know a lot of them, but does anyone know all of them?

Amongst others, I have noticed the ultra soulful Russ Abbot track.

The Neighbourhood put out a cover up special with one of the fanzines three or four years back. There was a prize for anyone who could name all the real tracks and artists. No one got close :P . Mind you Roly put it together so hardly a suprise there :P . Loads of good feedback though

Obviously Freddie Jones and Estella Dennison are known cover-ups, but some of the songs in that Mecca ad may have been made up names and not even referring to any particular track. Soussan pressings were taking a lot of heat out of the scene in those days; anything you could do to put him off the scent or send him down a blind alley was considered fair game.

Even wants lists sometimes featured fictitious records like I can't get enough by the Monk Higgin's Band. Well I assume it's a fictitious track.....

From what I remember , Little Lee Howell was Marc Copage, as mentioned previously Eddie Foster I am a Painter was the Black Abbotts, Casino Brothers was Casanova Two, we all know Freddie & Estella and Johnny Jackson, and the End of the World is Sidras theme. Anyone know any of the rest? If they ever existed.

Cover ups are brill!! Searling's c/u's took longer to announce than actually play.

"This is Alvera Washington and the Soul Senders featuring Lalome Jackson"

The record itself was always a bit of a disappointment after such a build-up.
