Theothertosspot Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) Can anyone help? Have a copy of Little Melvin on Valerie (see scans) but am not sure if it is first issue or not as I understand that it was issued twice. However, I do not know what the differences, if any, might be.Help appreciated, regards Bob Edited October 2, 2012 by theothertosspot
Guest sharmo 1 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Hi Bobby one's green and one's blue jim wensiora had this covered up and i sure was sold to Rob this was a green one which i'm sure Tat's told me was the first issue i remember Ian Clarke found a pile of blue one's which led to a more blanket exposure although i imagene i'm about to be blown out of the water by the soul source collective but i'd say the green one's were the first one's regards Simon.
Theothertosspot Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 Cheers Simone, I thought that there were two issues, and am thinking you may be correct as I'm sure I heard similar a number of years ago. Bob
Guest drewid Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 (edited) jon powney used to have this on his list 20 yr ago and was already known by some of the lads up newcastle etc back then , was told they were just pressed at different plants , sold mine to j manship about 8 yr ago a blue one ,he never mentioned about one being 1st or 2nd issue ,think they will be as rare as each other maybe? surprised its been covered up, or was that a long time ago, (it was on jon powneys list for about a tenner back then!) Theothertosspot Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) MIne was from Geoff Alsopp, whoi had it from Boogaloo around the same time as you Simon, but on the blue label. Regards Bob Edited October 3, 2012 by theothertosspot
Dave Thorley Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Here's a scan of the purple label and the only photo I have of the band. I believe that he was the same Little Melvin Williams, that was a notorious gang leader in Baltimore in the 60's & 70's. He latter appeared in the 'The Wire'.

Prophonics 2029 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I like this. reminds me of The Ascots A Few Feet From The Gutter or even a track or so off the LP Colour Me Soul but the other side reminds me of Billy Stewart.

It's probably good that it reminds you of billy stewart since it's a cover of a billy stewart song
Marc Forrest Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 (edited) I had the blue one too some while ago, tried to give it a spin here and there but soon dropped it because the recording on the blue copy sounded so low-fi...so, anyone witha green copy who can tell about the sound quality on that ? Edited October 3, 2012 by Marc Forrest
boba Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I think the purple is the original press btw, it has an "older" look to it than the blue copy. Mine is trashed though so I'm not a good person to ask about sound quality...
Prophonics 2029 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 It's probably good that it reminds you of billy stewart since it's a cover of a billy stewart song Thanks! Bob I didn't know that and I have some Billy.
