nah, they're just looking for offers, seems to be standard practice on ebay at the minute!

I think it's a ploy used by a lot of US dealers, in that they'll set a BIN price at a ridiculous level, but allow you to make a best offer. That way, they can vet the offers they've had and ensure that it doesn't go for lower than they expected. Additionally, they can then choose whether or not to accept what offer they consider reasonable.
